I have a 99 Disco 1 and I have struggled to fork out the money for some rear jump seats. LR wanted $1500 for some new light yellow cloth seats. Being the tight wad that I am, I found some used jump seats from a wrecking yard in Oklahoma by the name of Rover Cannibal.

I got the deal of the century, $580 for the seats and all the hardware. They were leather, they matched the rest of the Disco - after waiting an excruciating 3 weeks for them to finally arrive, they turned out to be a bigger job than I realized.

They do not fit. They are from a 95 Disco 1. I studied, I drew sketches, I visited my local dealer parts counter. I ordered another $80 worth of fasteners and brackets from the dealer to see if I can make them work. Will they?

Also... What do you do with the inner panels? How do you cut them for the seat belts, the brackets, etc.? Anyone out there ever tried this before? Any hints?

Save me from myself. I'm an engine guy, not a body guy... I'm worried that I will cut and slash my way through it, and it will look like it.

Eric-
The inner panels are unique to seven passenger discos. If you want to do it right, I would have started with a complete setup. Sometimes simplicity is worth a few hundred bucks to me. imho...
Bracketry and hardware aside (although that should have come from Cannibal with your seats), try ordering up new panels, and save yourself the headaches.
part numbers.....
BTR9486suc & BTR9487suc (beige)
BTR9486loy & BTR9487loy (grey)
these panels should make life a little easier
Aprox 175.00 per side give or take a little...

RoverCannibal should have included the panels for the price you paid. BTW, that wasn't really a great deal, I have seen them go for much less on this board.

So I'm learning there is a difference in the jumpseats from before 97 and the jumpseats 97-99. It seems the earlier ones had something behind the drivers side jumpseat. And that in 97 what ever it was is no longer there so that the drivers side jump seat nests into the panel.

Any one know what was behind the seat on the 96 and earlier? Just curious.

Eric,

FWIW - you can cut the inner panels with a knife. it may not be super pretty, but the openings are hidden behind the seats. Make sure you leave some room for the seat belt, otherwise it may rip your panel (it's cardboard).

I beleive that vehicles with the rear air had the unit mounted in the D/S rear quarter, which would be behind the jump seat. It caused the seat to sit out a little farther than the P/S seat. Does yours have rear air, and did the donor vehicle have rear air?

That makes sense. I have a 99 disco 1 the seats are out of a 95 which must have rear air. The bracket for the drivers side jump seat is set out about five inches and it is all one piece.

I purchased another set of the two top and two bottom brackets on the passenger side jump seat from the LR dealer, it seemed like they fit the pre-tapped holes under the panel on the drivers side. I will find out for sure when they get here.

So $580 was not the deal of the century. I saw some for $375 in the discoweb classifieds... Bummer. That makes the installation even that more painful.

Do you think it would be fair to go back to Rover Cannibal to get reimbursed for the $80 worth of fasteners and brackets required?
