The main problem with a MM hydro is just that. If the engine is not functioning you do not have the hydro power to run your winch. I do not have personal experience, yet, with either one. That is just what I have picked up. Thanks a lot. Hope that helps. |

A friend of mine that I was out with was stuck. Real stuck, in about 3' of water. Engine stalled, and water in the distributor, so no way to get it started. Had a Warn on the front, and pulled out with no problems. Had that been a MM, it would have just been added weight. |

this is a really old debate i guess a easy way to put it is if you want a simple system for short pulls that will pull a truck short distances without the motor running and dont do much deep mud running GO ELECTRIC If you are setting up a truck for hardcore wheeling with deep water fording protection. and plan on doing lots of deep mud that may require really long pulls over and over. or if you have a really heavy truck and know that you will be pulling lots of your none winch equiped friends all the time. GO MILEMARKER I'll put my 2 speed MM up against any electric anytime. |

kyle, the 3 I have have no plastic, but one of my buddies just got a new one that does. the part that alarmed me more was the end caps are not as beefy as they used to be,cast -vs- Billet, so it looks like MM has cut back some on the winches I have a over volume/pressure pump on mine making about 13000 on the first wrap @1700 psi ,but its got billet ends not the cast ones they use now. I would be a little leary of putting that much force on the new one I just saw. but at the 10500 rating it works fine on the cherokee its on. |

I have a 5 speed, and would have it no other way. That's just what I prefer, though. I get a lot of comments from people at ralleys about it as well, since they are so rare on Discos. |

Musky, Do you have that 1700 psi pump on the Disco? If so what kind of pump, the ZF or Saginaw? Please give some details. |

mike, the 1700psi pump is on my scout(my trail truck) its a saginaw 125 with the valve drilled out and all the shims removed and the blow off spring replaced with one of higher spring rate.you can see how to do it here. http://westtexasoffroad.homestead.com/index.html I have been dragging my heels finishing my front skid shield winch mount for the disco I have the winch and skid shield almost all set. I'm using a satalite pump from northern run on a doubler pulley from March CO. so I'll have a short Vbelt running off the powersteering pump to the ac/style clutch on the winch pump. that way I dont need to mess with the stock steering gear to run a alot of pressure. my lifes been to busy to finnish it all. the wife has fallen in love with the Disco so its all kinda sitting waiting. I gotta get going on it though, we plan on taking it to the Maze overlook this fall I'll take lots of pics when its done |
