97D1 The truck died after small water crossing, To no avail could i keep it running for more that a couple seconds, I remembered a thread, so i took out my foglamp wiring harness and tapped into the cig lighter + and ran this back to the fuel pump white/purple lead, then it started and ran, But mow my idal is at 1500 rpm, an hour and a half later i pulled my jumper and it kept running at 1500 rpm, Someone please help!
Peter....What could be wrong? and what could have gotten wet to cause this? the water did not reach the air cleaner! all was dry including the air filter. Any suggestions would prove helpful!!!!

Check the connection in the drivers side rear wheel house. Thats more then likely your issue..

The pump will run for a few seconds when you first turn the key to the "run" position before you actually start it, but it shouldn't with the key in the "accessory" position.

"I'll look there, What am i looking for?"

You are looking for an electrical connection. Check to see if it is fouled.

For the idle sensing unit go to the tech section, look under FAQs for 'stepper motor'. Remove the unit, clean, and replace. If no improvement, look into buying a new unit.

I disconnected everything that has to do with the fuel injection and fuel delivery, Cleaned with ballistrol and a fuel injection cleaner. Now all seems fine, About 100 miles put on and ok, Now i fear water, This is the true problem now! would it be wise to use dielectric grease on all connections? because the pinies are calling me!!
Thanks fore the advice guys!!!!

what gets wet is the fuel pump relay. its about a 4"by 4" square located on the right hand side of the engine compartment. the sealing on the hoods suck and all it takes is a splash and bang it starts clicking and wont supply current to the pump. had it happen to me a couple of times. i carry a spare relay. or compressed air in a can to dry it out.

Driver or passanger side, And yes my hood and fenders were 75% covered by that time.
