my truck got fixed after a car accident and after it was fixed, i feel a slight play in the steering wheel. is this normal, because i don't think it was there before. if it is not, what is causing the play in the steering? |

First, check the torque on the panhard rod. If you get under the truck (all wheels on ground) and have someone turn the steering wheel left and right within the range of play, you can feel around the panhard rod, tie rods and ends, pitman (drop) arm and steering box to determine if the play is coming from any of these sources. |

I have a variation on the original question posted. After one particular time off roading, my steering appeared to have much less resitance in the steering wheel "right-to-left" (or opposite) movement, especially when turning the wheel through approx. 30 degrees from dead center ( in either direction). It doesn't appear to be "play" or "slop" in the steering since any slight movement of the steering wheel to the right or left (from dead center) and the wheels will instantaniously follow. What would need to be adjusted to "tighten up the resistance to add to the feel of the steering? New bushings? Thanks for any insight you can provide. |

I've got another variant: My steering gets increasingly sloppy the longer I go in a straight line! After two or three hours on dead straight desert freeways, I can barly make the offramps my steering gets so loose. But other than those times, it's perfect! |
