Last weekend I bent my steering rod and replaced both the track rod and steering rod with a set from DAP, (the Bearmach set). Pretty good really, $159 for my Classic and $139 for a Disco that includes both bars and new greaseable ends. Anyway now you know why I bought them -$-$-$. Problem is DAP does not have a remounting kit for the steering dampener. They said they have experimented with different things but because this is hardened spring steel, everything slips. They also told me that I would not need it, as the spring steel would take the vibs out. Dont get my wrong, I am very happy I am going down the street straight again and that I saved a bunch and I think those guys are great, but boy did they get this wrong. The truck shimmies allover the place now after hitting a bump. I need the dampener, does anyone have any idea as to how to go about getting one on there? Or attaching to spring steel? I know it cant be welded, and I have been told that hardened steel is slippery so clamps slide off. Also the tubes are much larger than stock, so I cant even really experiment with stock relocation kits. Ideas? Help!! David in Boston |

What is the diameter of your new shafts...I can make a clamping dampener attachment for you. |

I'll measure tomorrow and get back to you. Are you able to make a relocation unit as well? Thanks in advance! David |

John, Do you have an email address? I was unable to get my hands on a caliper today, so I wrapped a piece of paper around the rod and took the measurements twice the first is 3 ¾ and the second is 3 13/16 so I did some quick math (3.75/3.14 = ~1.25 and came up with the tube being 1 ¼ inchs however thinking about it, I dont know if being Bearmach from the UK if there are metric pipes/tubes and if they would have used them. So my 1 ¼ could be all wrong. Is this enough to go on or do I really need a caliper? Feel free to call me. David 617-365-9004 |
