I had a leak in my power steering hose running from the pump to the box, which i replaced today. After I relpaced it, I attempted to start my truck and it took some coaxing. Eventually it turned over, but it is running really rich. If I hit the gas, it basically stalls and sputters for a min before it catches. I can't figure out what the hell I did to it.

Things I have checked.
-Plug wires are all on firmly
-Coil wire is on firmly
-wires are new
-I didnt take of the serpentine belt to make the repair.
-I was unable to run the hose under the bundle of wires that runs underneath the pump, and I did pull them up a bit, but nothing appears to be disconnected.

It almost sounds like timing, but I tried to actually spin the distributor a bit, and it wouldnt move, so I don't think thats it.

Help is appreciated

you have unplugged something, get the flashlight out and look for loose or disconnected wires.

is the cap on your distribuator firmly seated or may be its the vaccum line to the distribuator, i replaced my hose a few months ago and i know it was a wrestling match you may have bumped something out of whack.

Connections on the coil and grounds at the coil would be my first bet. There is a buncha crap going on over there in that area. No codes?

No codes, and I checked the connections at the coil, it looked good, however there is that bundle of wires that runs under the frickin hose, that got wrestled with, and I am suspecting that there is something going on there. but not sure.

well..I have an update. It doesn't run at all now. Won't start. I am begining to think the coil wire was damanged while I was wresteling around down there. There is no visible damage, but its worth a try. How can I tell if this is working or not?

and I'm open to other suggestions. All the connections appear to be good.

Are the coil primary wire connections covered with heat-shrink tubing? On or 95 they were by the dealer as a retrofit. Later had starting problems that I traced to all but three strands of copper being broken at the connection - but you couldn't see it because of the heat shrink. Problem would come and go as you wiggled the wire bundle (or it vibrated itself).

well..the distrubutor cap is ok, and the primary wire connections to the coil are ok, i ripped the heat shrink off it. Distributor is ok, and I cant see any connections that are not connected. the only thing I can think of is that there are some wires that are in that harnas to the coil or something that broke when I was moving it around.

any thoughts? anything else I can look at that I am unaware of? How can I tell if I am getting power to the coil?

Help is appreciated.

You mentioned "-wires are new" Plug Wires did you change those at the same time? If so I would check that the fire order is correct?
Also it's possible one of the new leads could be bad?

the plug wires are about 6 months old and I haven't messed with em since I put them in. So I dont think thats it. It was running fine before I changed the PS hose.

I'm afraid I may have to take this to the dealer...ugh

It was just a thought, I hope it does not hurt too bad in the wallet.. another thought when fooling around did you pull the conections to the back of the alternator? One of the lead for the coil comes of there i belive? it been awhile for me on the non gems...

I pulled mine out one time on my 88 RR

i have an update, i fixed the damn thing. Oddley enough, my cap and rotar went bad. Which had nothing to do with my Power Steering hose. Why the quit working at the same time is beyond me. I checked, and had spark from the coil but very little if any on the plug wires. I changed the cap and rotar and it roared to life.

Thanks all for your help.
