Is the transmission filter on my 98 D1 really this hard to remove/replace? Seems to me that the only way I can remove the transmission base is to first remove exhaust cross-over so I can then remove the frame cross member! For something that should be routine maintenance this seem like a PITA. I checked the tech page and didn't see any pages regarding this. Any suggestions?... Please. |

yes, you have to drop the exhaust and at least move the X member Ron |

Ron, I cheated. I loosened the bolts off of the Y pipe, at the front, til the almost came off. Then I remove the bolts at the rear of the Y pipe. Next, I removed the bolts off the crossmember and hammered it out of the way, towards, the front. It was just enough to remove the oil sump and replace the transmission oil filter. By the way, it was not so dirty to warrant replacement. My truck is a '94 with 145K miles on it. I replaced it anyway since I had already purchased it. Also, don't forget to buy . a new sump gasket, mine was brittle . 'O' rings for the filter . copper washer for the drain plug FWIW, Javier |
