I saw this on the Kaymar website.

http://www.kaymar.com.au/rover.html

Has anyone done this? I am trying to avoid the whole roof rack thing. This setup allows oversize tire, jerry can and worklight.

Of course, you need a steel rear bumper to mount the carriers on. I plan on getting a steel rear bumper regardless. The only one I have found is the Trek Outfitter bumper, but I am still looking around. TJM supposedly will come out with a D2 version . . . one day.

Yes, go to the tech section for "Kaymar rear bumper install" by Gerry Elam.

Ed H,

Specifically I am asking about the tire carrier and jerry can carrier on the Kaymar webpage not the bumper.

I AM looking for a steel bumper to replace my bent up stock bumper, but their bumpers only fit the D1 not the D2.

Thanks for the point though.

BW, I'm currently working on one to go with my steel rear bumpers. Just be warned that my rear bumper requires you to cut about 6"-7" of sheet metal from your lower rear quarter panel. Go to my gallery to see pictures. The carrier is probably another 6-8 weeks out. Plans are for it to mount your spare, two cans, and a hi-lift style jack. The weight will be supportd by the bumper, not the door, but the carrier will open and close with the door so additional latches will not be necessary.

Greg,

I like your rear bumper a lot. Better to cut 7" than to crumple 10" of sheet metal. I like your carrier idea too. I also like the idea that your incorporating the carrier without adding additional latches.

As far as your bumper goes . . . what did you do with your turn signal lights? Did you move them up to the break-light housing?

Here is a pic of my kaymar bar with a homemade swingaway tyre carrier.
Kaymar use a standard trailer sub axle so I bought a trailer wheel hub and cut the flange off to make my carrier. Mig weld the tube on because of dissimilar metals. (tried stick welding and it wouldn't take)

200Tdi,

Looks good. I got an email from Kaymar this afternoon. They currently do not have a Kaymar bar for the D2 but plan on making one in the future.

BW, I converted my brake lights to double as brake/signal lights. It's very easy to do with a trailer light converter.
