Have had my disco '96 for about a year now. This is the second burnt wire Ive had on the same loom from the pump/sender unit end. Is there any one out there with a similar problem? How to fix it? I replaced the first loom/sender unit with a semi new pump and loom. This problem only affect startup. Turn key to ON, and the pump gets no power to energise fuel system. Please help. |

I have a theory about why the harnesses burn up. With a recirculating system, the same fuel gets filtered many times before the tank is refilled. With filter replacement intervals at 50 to 60k miles, ithink the filters are getting restricted. Restrictions mean more energy is needed to run the pump and more energy brings more heat which brings on a trip to the parts department. i replace the filters on my customers vehicles at 30k services. From NAPA, they are only about $20. I was replacing pumps a bout two a month 18 months ago. I have only sold three this year. Coincidence? Maybe... My 2 cents. |
