If it is not one thing it is another. Now, my key won't come out of the ignition, and the car doesn't really seem to be in park, as I can roll it fairly easily by pushing. What is broken now and where do I look for the screwed up part? The workshop manual, once again doesn't seem to be too helpful at diagnosing this issue.. Help please. Mark |

Your problem is up at the shifter.Perhaps a coin fell into the mechanism up there or some loose debris?? It needs to go fully forward for the key to come out.. Kyle |

Carefully pry the cover off the top of the shifter and look down to see if the small thumb release retainer clip fell off. Replace it with a real circlip |

Thanks guys, Kyle, it sorta fixed itself. Must have been something keeping the lever from getting all the way to park. While tearing out the console to look under the auto shifter cover (where the N,D,R, etc. are) I found, much to my chagrin, that the front two screws that hold the "shifter cover" to the tranny tunnel will not back out like they are supposed to. I'm guessing the threads in the tunnel part are stripped. Its not the end of the world now, since the key is going in and out of the ignition without a problem, but how would I go about getting those screws out? Drill them out and retap or weld a nut to the tranny tunnel, or what? Just wonderin' Mark |
