I have 235 85r16 MT's now. If I go to a 265 75r16 MT can I keep the 235 85 spare or is the little difference in height between the two enough to cause a problem if I have to run the spare? Ron Ward |

all depends on how many miles you would use your spare for. having different sizes on each end of a axle will activate the Diff as if you are going around a corner all the time. it will build heat in the diff oil. if you have a mechanical locker it can wear the engagement dogs unevenly causing a click click click as you run down the highway having a tire low on air does the same thing you can air the taller tire down so the center of the axle is the same height off the ground to minimize the effects.people drive thousands of miles with incorrect air pressures and dont burn up diffs so you really need to be your own judge |
