I just got my '96 disco and don't have an owner's as of yet manuel yet. My service engine light is on. I don't think it's had the 82.5 dealer service yet, so I'm taking it in this week. Is this light a promt for routine service? Or is there something wrong with the engine? Any recommendations of where to go in Atlanta for service. I know of Buckhead Land Rover and have heard of Bearland. Any preferances, opinions, advice, others...? Thanks so much! |

North Point, Buckhead and Gwinnett are all factory LR dealers owned by the Hennessey group. Typical dealership shop rates, customer service, and sales. Use at your own risk. Bear Valley in Roswell is a used LR specialty dealer with a LR factory trained technician for service. I have used them (bought twice from them) for almost all of my major servicing once the warranty ran out. The "Service Engine" yellow light is a factory set light to alert you to have the next scheduled major service inspection done. Some say it is a waste of time. I had it done at the dealer for my 1997 Disco's 52,500 and at Bear Valley for my 1995 Classic's 52,500 services. I saved money at Bear Valley, but North Point replaced a worn front driveshaft, brake master and door-lock mechanism all under warranty. The "Check Engine" red light (MIL) signals a fault code and should be tended to. Bear Valley has all the diagnostic computer equipment that the dealer has so don't worry about that. I've also heard good things about The German Mark, also in Roswell, from a friend who had them do some work on his Disco. Over in the Buckhead area, right behind Rio Bravo or Taco Mac I think, is a British garage with Land Rovers parked around the place. They may be a good source for you as well. Good Luck! |

My service engine light is red and my Check engine light is yellow! Not sure if that is what you meant to say Ron or if mine is different. I just used Buckhead Land Rover for Warranty work and they were good. There are a couple of small independent shops called Road Britianna that specialize in British cars. One is right down the street from Buckhead Land Rover and the other is down the street from the Rio Bravo in Buckhead on Roswell Road. I haven't ever used them but I have heard that they do good work and save you a lot of money!! Good Luck |

Northpoint LR is the best! They were able to diagnose the dreaded VALVE issue after taking it to Buckhead and having them replace the speed sensor 4 times. I've found that the Buckhead crew ACTS "Buckheadish"/Snobby. The service crew was especially rude. My friend recently took his D2 in for a failed ACE pump. They replaced it with the same failed pump. The exact same pump. Then acted as if they were doing him a favor by replacing it for free. Whatever? Northpoint is great. They always have the work done quickly and correctly. No more re-visits. |

I could be wrong, but I remember on my D1 that the Check Engine light, one that signals a fault code, is red and the Service Engine light that indicates a preset number of miles or hours of operation has transpired is yellow. But I could be wrong as I don't have my owners manual sitting here in my office. Ron |

I went and checked on the lights....... When I crank my truck the RED Service engine light comes on for a couple of seconds and then goes out. The yellow check engine light does not come on but I just had it turned off recently so I know it was yellow. No big deal I guess but just want to make sure I know which one is serious and which one is a reminder. Anyone else know about the lights????- |

Always used Land Rover buckhead and had nothing but good experiences. Bear Valley is way up 400 - bought my truck from them but I thought they were a little shady - screwed me on my trade-in. You will save money by going to the independent shops though. Good luck. |
