I bought a used '98 Disco I last Saturday. I tried to remove the wheel to check the brakes, but the jug nuts have metal caps on them. The owners manual says to use the tool in the luggage rack bag to remove the metal caps. I don't find a tool which looks like it could remove these. I went to the local Rover dealer to order the tool and he brought out a regular lug nut wrench and said the metal caps stay on. Is this the case? If not, how do I get the caps off> |

Not sure about the 1998 Disco I but my 1999 Disco II has a kind of cap on the lug nuts. Just remove the whole thing as if they were solid lug nuts if they're the same as my Disco II. |

Just place the lug wrench right on those caps. They are Stainless steel caps that stay on the lugnuts. I had to buy a larger (more leverage) wrench as the stock one just bent/twisted. When you reinstall the wheel, be liberal with antiseize. I suggest buying a 4-way tire lug wrench instead of the stocker, to get one big enough, go to Pep Boys or a Truck Stop. |

i hate those caps.. my Range Rover lugs are solid metal and they dont bind onto the socket when i use the impact on them like it does with the RR, , so depending on how bad you hate them you can buy the RR ones. rd |
