Finally decided to bite the bullet and have my radiator recored, or rodded. Called my local radiator shop and was told they won't rod a radiator for fears it will leak down the road (yadda, yadda, yadda), but they'd be happy to recore my radiator for the low price of only $410!!! But, if I wanted a brand new one, they could get me one for $999. Called another radiator shop and they were unable to even get a core. I wish I could find one of these shops where you guys are having them recored for a lot less than my experiences have been. Paul |

Paul, The Shop i had mine done last year is now closed. Sunset Raditor in San Diego, it was 85 to rod it out. I may pull the Discos later this year and have it done. |

REPLACE THE DAMN THING, really, there is a great debate on this subject but to much rides on your cooling systems performance replace it, get ahold of discountrovers.com (dee or nathan) they have the best price. mike w |

Dee, my rangie's rad was nearly 100% plugged - so it was running mostly on the heater lately. The core turned out to have been hack-repaired to such extent that it was discarded. So, the entire thing took away whatever i planned to spend on the other toys, but the rangie runs cool as a cucumber. Paul, if you find a replacement for under $500, go for it. you won't save much on rodding it. peter |

geez are we going to go thru this again. the reallllllyyyyyy big problem with rodding is the potiential harm to your cooling system. why you ask, when rodding is the operator screws up or discovers a hole in one of the tubes they simply plug it. not a real big problem until they get a few plugged and the efficieny of the heat exchanger, aka radiator, goes down. you wont discover this until you begin to work the engine and the temps go up. replace it, dont take the chance. mike w |

M.K, Good points but I have always had my radiator's. rodded first then if holes were found I would have a new core installed. I would only one plugged as a temporary fix.. It has always been 1/2 the price of a new one. I guess I am lucky having found competent shops in my area to do things like this. |
