Hello Everyone, My wife just gave me the go ahead to buy and install a brush bar on my 1999 Land Rover Disco I. I am hoping you can help me out and answer a few questions for me. 1) Does anyone know where I can buy a brush bar in the NYC tri-state area? I know British Atlantic & Rover connection have brush bar but which one should I get for my Disco I? 2) When I do buy one is it better to install it myself or should I pay someone to do it? 3) Do any of the brush bars come w/ a mount for a license plate or is it protected by the bar? 4) When I get the brush bar should I also mount Hella lights to it right away or can it wait? Any information anyone can provide is greatly appreciated. Feel free to send it to my home account at [email protected] Thanks in advance for all your help. Many...many thanks Joseph John Fulay |

Well, you can't go wrong with an ARB. They're probably the most common but for good reason. They do have a place to mount a licence plate and places to mount lights. If you have the know how you could install it yourself, with help from another of course. If not, have someone install it for you. It's a very solid front end replacement and they look good. You say 1999 Land Rover Disco I. 1999 is a Disco II. 1998 and below is a Disco I. |

Do you want a brush bar, ala Land Rover Genuine Parts, or a replacement front bumper, ala Trek Outfitters, ARB, Safarigard, etc... A brush bar is just that, it keeps brush and sticks from damaging the paintwork, quite effectively, actually. They are not all that useful for recovery, though. The replacement bumpers are usually all steel welded front ends that really armor up your car, and most of them add to the aesthetics as well. They usually come with integrated brush bars and winch mounts. Cheers, Kennith |

Hey Cooper, I thought the same thing until I did a lot of research and found out that in 1999 this was the last production year for the Disco I and was sold in conjunction to the Disco II. That's why I have been having such a hard time to get parts and accessories for my truck since it practically falls in a 'cusp' for the production years. Thanks for all the info...definately will figure something out when I do get it. Joseph John Fulay |

It is not hard to find parts. Anything that fits on a 98 DI fits on a 99 DI. Get a non airbag ARB or rovertym.com bumper, then you can ram cabbies in the city. |

If you do decide to get a new front bumper, you will need to upgrade/replace your springs and possibly shocks to more heavy duty than the stock. Kim |

Joseph John, Whenever looking for anything for your truck, pretend it's a 1998 truck, and you'll have a much easier time. That's how I dealt with that, and it worked well.... instead of having to explain to the parts guy each time that "no, it's not a II", just say it's a '98, and all should be well. Occasionally, even '98s weren't listed, though, so I'd say "look for a '97", and usually that would work, too. And Cooper, Joseph John's right... basically, the last of the Series I Discoveries, mostly built in the end of 1998, were sold as 1999 SD models, where the DII was the upper-grade Discos that year. That's why the "plain SD" models in '99 usually have heated leather seats, CD-changers, etc. etc., because Rover was using up the last of the Series I Disco stuff..... FWIW.... -L |

Did not know that, interesting. So, the one's built at the end of 98' and sold as 99'SD models have the old or new body style? Thanks |

A '99 SD is the "old" style, a Series I Discovery. A '99 Discovery other than an SD, is a Series II Discovery, the "new" style.
