not a good idea if you do alot of water crossings or see a lot of mud. i had a friend that put one in his D90 and it was always having trouble with the wet stuff because of the way it's set up. he had to remove and clean it quite a few times. he eventually put the stock unit back in.

I replaced the o.e. starter with a M.G. unit two years ago.

The original unit's drive unit was failing. In hindsight, I would reccomend repairing the original Bosch unit since the M.G. is exhibiting cold weather problems.

The water issue_may_have been resolved as the later MG units have a revised vent arrangement.

I still have the Bosch on the bench and will repair it before winter arrives again.

Ok; "overkill" indicates that the stock starter is entirely adequate for this application, and that the MG statrter's extra torque and speed really isn't necessary.

The cold weather (that means below 15 degrees or so Farenheit) problem that I have had appears to be with the engagement of the starter drive, not the motor itself.

Get a rebuilt Bosch, take your old one back for the "core" credit, and keep it simple.
