Just this evening on my way home, a tremedous howl started. I believe its a classic bearing howl, and I think its coming from the passenger front. I am planning on a trip this weekend, and have got some time to work tomorrow. Should I open up the hub and try a quick bearing pack job? I dont have time to order new seals, although I do have a couple lock washers laying around. So.... first of all, do you think that it is the bearing? If so, do you think that a temporary re-pack will get me through this weekend? Thank you SO much for your help, I appreciate it. Have a good day. |

Cliff: Hate to make it sound bad, but I have heard blown up CV joints cause a truck to sound like it had a siren. When you open things up to look at the bearings, give the end of the CV joint a tug and see how much play you have. If it is more than about 0.020", you had better plan on pulling the swivel apart and having a looksee. By chance, does it roll down hills when in park? This was the first symptom of a failing CV joint in the case I described. How's your swivel lube level? Hopefully, it is full and you didn't lose a CV joint. The good news is that you should be able to get away with just some Hylomar to seal things up. Paul |
