What are the symptoms of a bad O2 sensor? |

Check Engine light coming on. Stinky exhaust because it is running too rich. Lackluster performance, black smoke. O2 sensors are like spark plugs. They need to be replaced, they don't last forever. Sometimes you can go longer than others. If you are over 60K, it is probably a good time to replace them. Tom |

Would a bad O2 sensor make your truck die on long hills and shift into higher gears really noticeably? |

I had a faulty O2 sensor in the exhaust system on my Disco II V8 some time ago. There are two sensors near where the cats are and one of them didn't work properly, causing my engine to ping badly on occasion due to the computer setting the ignition timing incorrectly. So my engine would ping even though it was on premium unleaded, and it took a while before the dealer could sort it out. Lawrance Lee |
