I have a 95 D1 and want to know if I will have problems fitting my 265/75 MTR to the rear of my truck. I've heard of "inverting" the spare tire carrier but am unfamiliar with the process. Thanks for the help,
James

Don't know about the DSI, but I'm sure you'll have the same issues as on the DSII... Here is a link to how it is done on the DSII, probably very similar on the DSI;

I'll be doing it this weekend, and a OME susp...:)

no need to mess with the tire carrier for disco1.

tight...

What is the largest size to fit on the stock carrier? I remember seeing it posted once before but couldn't find it in a search.

stock carrier can handle up to 235/85-16 or 265/75-16

anything larger you'll need a periscope. :)

it'll fit a 32x11.50 swamper very nicely :)

On the DSII's, they moved the carrier lower for rear visibility, so we (DSII owners) have to invert our carriers. DSI owners don't have that problem. But our rigs are still better!

On a disco I, you can fit a 33x12.5" swamper - that's a 33.7" tall tire. Of course, you have to air down the tire. :)

On-board air is a must with this method.

Tom, what's the diameter of your air tank? Just wondering if that bracket would work on my unit (approx 8" dia).

I like to have Air in my Spare....lol Although , by not airing down the rest I have a pretty good chance of not needing it.. :)

A flat spare + plenty of air = a spare with plenty of air. :)

Greg, I don't know off hand, but here are the dimesions of the mount..

Aflat spare that you have to air up with the good ole trail air = Cash you have to spend. Not very efficient Tommy Boy.. :)

Efficient??? Airs up my tires in < 1 minute. LOL

When you already have the trail-air and some real tires that can survive airing down, there is not additional cash outlay. Except maybe that once in a lifetime you actually air up the spare for about 10 cents worth of CO2.

Kyle,
I was just wondering what kind of tires and what size tires you have on your disco?
Thanks, John

Jeeper Michelins ? You are hte one that made the statement about not having good enough tires to air down.... I am just asking what good tires are ? As far as my futura.... well , they are still alive after traveling many thousands of miles... How about yours ? They have traveled that far ? I am interested in getting some "Real" tires , thats why I ask.. :)

regardless of tires, spare is never flat. why should it be? just mess with the carrier and make them fit. thats' my point.

Well yes Ho , actually , back in the 70's cars came with flat space saver spares. Also included was a can to inflate it. As you can see. That idea went away... I wonder why ? :)

Go buy a brand new Corvette, they don't have any spare. Normal ones have EMT Goodyears, but if you spend about $50,000 on a new Z06 then all you get is can of fix-a-flat.

LOL. Ok you guys win. I am going outside to fabricate a spare tire mount and air up my spare immediately.

Ho - be sure to stop selling that safety seal stuff. There is no way you could put air in the tires after plugging it without huge amounts of additional expense!!!

LOL
