Im thinking about adding a clear underbody light next to the rear step behind the bumper on my se7. Its pretty dark where I live, and the added light will help light the rear of the truck when loading and unloading gear. I would like for it to come on with the interior lights so I thought that I would have the rear light feed, power a relay coil and pick up the light feed from the spare trailer wire. So when the doors are opened or the remote is pushed, the light will come on. But I dont know if it will work because of the fade to off interior lighting in the truck. It may cause the relay to chatter while the lights dim down. I could use a small wattage bulb and nix the relay however, I would like at least a 20 watt light under there to light the rear. Any Ideas? RonC |

Why not just hook the light up to the constant wire and put a switch in the cargo area? |

Ron, Go to your local Northern tools and equipment or Tractor supply company. They usually have very durable lights for a very little cost. I currently have a "tractor" spot light in my Series 3 109", and it is the best thing I could have done. Max T. |

The relay will chatter with the dimming light. You could just use the door pin to activate your relay. it will do everything you want it to do except come on with the alarm. but you really don't need that. you could use a timed relay that opens and stays open for a set amount of time as they only need a pulse to activate. I can't think of all the scenarios for this but it might work..... make a latching relay by using the (- or+) witch ever you are going to use to activate the relay at 85 (you will have to use a diode to isolate the dome light) and jump 85 to 87a (i don't have a relay in front of me but it would be the top one or the open position) and 30 would be the same polarity as the dome output..In case this is confusing basically what you want to happen is once the relay opens with say(+) you want to feed the (+) back into it holding it open. Know how to turn it off??? you need another relay and cut your jumper wire from 85 and 87a and put them on 30 and 87 of the second relay and find somting to trigger that relay. Mabey the door trigger or somthing. Could possiby be your doorlock so when you turn off your car the dome light will come on turning on the first relay then you exit the car press your alarm the doors lock activating the second relay turnig off the light. You would have to check this against every possible senario to make sure the no matter what order you do things in that you don't leave the first relay on and drain your battery. Ken |
