I've recently lifted the disco and am getting new drive shafts. I plan on ordering from Tom Woods, but before I do I was told I need to replace the rear diff. flange (that connects to the rotoflex/rear drive shaft). I managed to get the drive shaft off pretty easily, but I can't seem to get the "centralizing peg" off. According to the Rover service manual I need a tool to extract it (LRT-51-008). I tried pulling the darn thing off, but no dice. Anyone have any suggestions? Alternatively, if anyone know where I could order the tool for a decent price I would appreciate it. (Not surprisingly my local Land Rover dealership wasn't too keen on the idea of loaning me the tool for a couple of minutes and they won't sell it to me...) Thanks! Bill [email protected] |

Bill My dealer was nice enough to lend me thier tool, then I broke it trying to get that peg off. The head mechanic said it needs to be heated up to break the loc-tite. I ended up drilling small holes around the seam of the peg and the flange. The peg goes into the flange approx. 1.5" so you may need 3 drill bits I broke 2. Then I drilled had to drill out the center hole larger and the whole way through the peg then I rethreaded it then took a grade 8 or stronger bolt and used that as my puller. Use a long bolt, it will stop at the pinion but you can still turn it and the c-peg will work it's way out. I am sure that is not the best way, As I was doing it I was hoping I would not screw up my ring or pinion. That was my last resort I tried filing two sides of the peg down and taking a wrench to it. No luck Good Luck |

Bill, I have a DSII, but had the same problem. I couldn't get mine off to save my life. I finally locked the center diff and drove to the dealer in front wheel drive and had them finish the install. Cost me $95, but was better than screwing something up. |
