Can anyone point me to the pics of the person that is carrying their Jack on the light tabs of their ARB front bumper? I've seen it before, and need to get mine mounted this afternoon if possible to get it out of the cab. I don't have a roof rack yet, so this is my option right now.
Thanks
Greg

Anybody? I've seen someone on here that had theirs mounted up there. It looks like a simple job of bolts, nuts, washers and a wing nut on top, but I'm curious if anyone that has done it left the handle/jack mechanism on, and their jack mate on. Also, is there any reason not to do this? I just need a temporary outside storage spot until I get a roof rack.
Thanks, Greg

From bottom up...Bolt, washer, light tab, washer, nut, sleeve, washer, hi-lift, washer, wingnut.

From memory, hope it helps.

Greg,

Hit Home Depot for that hardware list before we head out tonight. We can put it all together at the camp site.

Will do. I'm on my way to Home Depot right now. I'll be waiting by the cell phone Paul.

Thanks,

The jacks I've seen mounted weren't on the light tabs. Holes were drilled into the top of the bumper on the same bar the light tabs are mounted on.

Why to drill your top of the Bumper while it will be there only temponary? If you drill its a good spot for rust to begin:)

Hi Petros, it looks like you have a Jack All so you are fortunate enough to have hole spacing on the jack frame that lines up with the antenna mounts on the ARB.
If you have a Hi Lift the spacing is different and there fore holes are required on one of the brackets supporting what Al has seen.

Petros,

I partialy agree with you on the rust issue but also keep in mind that the bumper is much more likely to rust underneath where you'll hit rocks. If you drill holes and do the installation correctly you should be okay.

I used the light tabs with my 60" hi-lift and the holes were a little off, so I just bent the bolts SLIGHTLY (with the hi-lift), and they lined up fine. It is plenty strong, and very easy to access. It is a good solution. I wouldn't drill if I didn't have to.

Also, I leave the handle in the jack, and secure it with a zip-tie.

I got mine mounted with some help from a friend, Paul. I used the top light tabs to mount them to.

Thanks for the tips

Michael,
its a Hi lift and fits exactly!
Al ,
If you drill a tube, I think that you make it weaker. The rust inside the tube of your Arb will be working and working. On the undernath the rust is just surficial.
Anyway this one its a cheap combo without drilling and with easy remove.
I fit the brackets and the Hi lift in 2 min. every time I go offf roading. I also take with me the sandlanders and my shovel. Everything else is always in the truck (recovery items, clothing, tools, etc including some food and water:))

Petros, I am curious how old your ARB is and what type?
The the tabs mounted on my nonairbag bought in 2000 will not work with my 60" HiLift so instead of bending bolts as some have done I am going to mount a flat bar and drill holes in it avoiding the rust issue and also move the jack forward away from the hood. The old mount I fashioned allowed the jack to touch the hood while opening.

Mike,
My ARB is bought in 2001 and is a NOairbag just like yours. My setup also allows the jack to touch the hood while opening:(. But for the holes to fit exactly I've done this trick: From Bottom up , Bolt 12mmm, washer, light tab, washer, apostate, nut, hi-lift, washer, wingnut. While you clam the nut you move the bolts left or right ti fit to the holes of Hi lift.

Basically, what I ended up with on my airbag ARB was this: 1/2" bolt, washer, light tab, washer, nylon lock nut, regular nut, regular nut, washer, jack all, washer, lock washer, & wing nut. This held my Jack all off the hood. The two regular nuts serve as my spacers. The nylon lock nut, keeps the bolt secured into the light tab.

I put the jack on with the handle facing the passenger side of the truck. Also, make sure the hinged side of the lift mechanism is facing up.

The lock washer under the wing nut is a good idea to keep the unit secured, plus I cranked it tight with an adjustable wrench, which I keep handy in the cab. The base and jack mate ride in a bag in one of my storage bins. I used wire ties on the handle, but will get some velcro straps to keep it secure and rattle free while driving.

The key to making the jack fit, is to have someone hold the jack while you align the bolts to the holes. The 1/2 inch bolts allow you to have enough play to fit the jack. Once they are aligned, tighten the nylon lock nut, and your set.

I took pictures and once developed can post them for anyone that is curious. Should have them back by tomorrow evening.

Cheers, Greg
