Did some work on the disco this weekend, made space for 2nd battery and almost completed a full maintenance. Some questions that came up that couldn't be found in the archives (which answered the other 10, amazing!) Would it be OK to drain the auto transmission currently running on Dexron IID and refill with Dexron III? Since not all fluid drains, will they mix without problems? I've seen recommendations to "flush" the power steering fluid, how is that done? When draining the T-case oil, the magnetic plug was completely full of metal shavings. How serious is this, is something breaking down inside the case or is it normal wear? Many thanks in advance! /T |

You will be fine by mixing the 2 oils. They are compatable. Do it once a month for the next few months and youll have a higher ratio of III. As for the shavings, if it has been a long time since a fluid change, thats probably ok. If you see new shavings once a month, theres a problem. My transf. case hadnt ever been changed when I bought it. At 90k miles, I changed it to find lots of shavings. Now, I replace the fluid once every 6 months and hardly find any at all. |
