It appears that I now have a leaking hub seal (left front on a 95 D1) that needs serviced. Unfortunately, I do not have time to repair it before having to tow a trailer with it tomorrow. How big of a problem am I going to cause by towing with this leak and letting the reapir go a couple of days? Anything I can do to minimize the impact (other than taking it to a dealer for an emergency fix)? Or am I likely to cause serious and expensive problems by doing this? |

great timing. i JUST did this job about 3 days ago. well orginally i was thinking it was a bad bearing seal, but after a little more work it ended up being the axle shaft (tube) seal. it is a metal/rubber seal on the left side of the rotor. i was replacing the pads and rotors as well. but once the rotor was off you could see where the swivel grease was leaking through. you will also need to get a few paper seals as well. there is one on the hub flange and a thicker one a little farther in. i unfortunatly did not have them all with me and had to make a 3 hour round trip to a LR dealer to get the parts as my truck was in pieces at a friends garage. i left this repair go for a while.......was spraying grease all over my wheels for a few months. don't have to take this kind of work to a dealer. any good mechanic can take care of this job in a few hours. get the newer swivel grease they are using from the dealer though. it is a heavier weight than the 90W they were using. suppose to keep it from leaking as easily. get your parts from nathan or dee at http://www.discountrovers.com and take the parts to your local garage and have it done. |

Thanks for the input, Garrett. So you ran yours for a while with no apparent additional problems... Anybody else put this repair off for a while? |

yeah it ran like that for a good month or two. once a week or every two weeks it would splash more than usual all over the wheel. here is a pic of what it looks like from the outside. the downside is that eventually the swivel oil will run out and then bad things happen. don't do as i did.......take care of it as soon as you can. get the parts from nathan like i said or the dealer (depending on your urgency) and have it done by a local shop.
