I have a '96 disco....and no owners manual. How do you lock the diff? I went to silver lake sand dunes in MI, and didn't fair all that well. I never got stuck, but couldn't make it up test hill. I took all kinds of razzing from the Jeepers...all in good fun, of course. I don't want this too happen again.....hahaha. thanks

Read the articles in the "Discovery" section. Then come back with specific questions on whatever is still not clear.

Thanks Axel.....I read that now, is the lever supposed to move to the left? If it is mine is stuck.....Any ideas how to diagnose the problem?

redfaced, email me if you would like a copy of the owners manual. I might have one around here.

I also had my hazard light go off with out pushing the button when I went through some crazy stuff WAY too fast.....bounced all over the place, and they wouldn't turn off until I shut off and restarted the truck. Is that supposed to happen, telling my that I am driving like a moron???

yeah that happens too. freaked me out the first time as well. sometimes your truck will not start after slamming it around a bit. the inertia switch has to be reset at times. thinks it was in an accident.
if you are driving to fast AND you break something......then you are a moron. haha

Lubricate by usage! I assume you are able to get it into Low range? Well either way, you SHOULD be able to move the selector to the left also, the left side is Diff-Lock, as you know now.

Anyway, try coasting slowly (-5 mph) on some loose gravel or sand, then shift it over to the Diff-Lock while coasting. Then go get stuck and watch the Jeepers marvel at how you got in there in the first place.

LOL

exactly what we watched yesterday. some jeeper lady made a comment "you guys are doing great!" (with the phrase seemingly cut short at "for what wussbags you are").

it was comforting to see them not to turn down my offer of directions and jam seven jeeps into a tight and short dead end.

Thanks for all the info! I checked the archives and got some good stuff there, too. My only question now is, do you have to be moving to lock the diff, or can you do it stopped. I did notice that going from high to low range is easier when you are rolling.....slowly that is......

yes... a slow forward roll works best.
