The front turn signals in my 97 disco have about an inch of water in them. Anyone tried to put small weep holes in the lenses to help with drainage? |

Yeah, a piece of angle iron put about a 4 inch weep hole in the front of mine off road. It drained quite nicely. Cheers, Kennith |

Yea, i used a dremel tool to cut an angled hole in the bottom. Its about 2 mm wide. i started from the lower rear side and drilled it up at a forward angle. |

Brad, here is another option that works well. Remove the entire signal light housing and drain most of the water. Get some methanol (methyl hydrate...Home Depot or other hardware store) and pour into the housing. Drain the methanol and repeat this three times. Take a hair dryer and blow into the housing to evaporate any residual methanol. Caulk the edge between the lens and the housing with clear silicone sealant. Then coat the lamp holder seat with a little silicone grease and re-install. Just another option! Good Luck, jeff. PS. using the hairdryer to remove the water without the methanol rinse will send your electricity bill through the roof...its a vapour pressure thing...lol |

brad, i had a problem with the driverside turn signal. i drilled two very tiny holes, one at the top and bottom, no more water problem. mike w |

Mr. Watson, why the one on top? Is that to encourage evaporation? |

no its to allow the water in the bottom to drain. its a physic thing or something like that if you drill a snall hole in the bottom, as the water drains it draws with it some of the atmosphere in the lens assembly. this cause the pressure on the surface of the water to be reduced thus causing the drain to slow or stop (depending on the size of the hole, the maount of water and how tight the rest of the seam is on the light fixture) without the hole on top it will drain slowly or not at all mike w |
