The passenger side factory fog lamp went out on my 98 Disco. It is a sealed beam unit. I checked a couple parts stores, but of course they don't have it. The dealer says the replacement lamp is $133.50 - seems a little high for a light! (He said it's because it comes with all the brackets, bolts, etc - that I don't need).
Does anyone know of a cheaper way to replace this lamp?

look in the Archives for a write up on this. The lens is sealed, but the bulb can be accessed from the back of the light (removing the plastic cover)and can be replaced for under $3.
I will be replacing a burnt out light tonight myself. Damn Houston streets..=-)

Lamp is easy to change. It removes from the back. Hella makes a H3 55watt lamp that should be available even in the local Walmart.

It isn't as easy as some foglights to replace, it takes a little bit of a peculiar angle to get your tools in there from behind. I don't know why L.R. didn't want people changing those things. Even the manual says they are sealed beams and not to have the dear change them. I managed to replace both my bulbs with some PIAA Xtreme bulbs in the middle of the winter with slush dripping on me so doing it in the summer shouldn't trouble you much.
No need to spend anywhere near $100 bucks to replace it unless your whole housing is trashed.

this is the perfect time to just rip the whole airdam off
or the duct tape and flash light sounds like a plan too :)

Thanks for all the help; I'll give it a try this weekend. (BTW, I'm saving the duct tape to seal the leaking "sun" roof.)

THANKS FOR THE INFO ON REPLACING THE FOG LIGHT BULB. I finally got around to it yesterday, and it was a snap - and $5.00 compared to $138.00!
Thanks again!!
