Need to change the oil in my front diff and was wandering what Land Rover uses at the dealership or has anyone used others? Thanks in advance.

Matt,

John Lee was trying the Lucas Oil additive a few weeks ago

I didn't notice any difference at all with the Lucas Oil Additive. Just like with anything else I've ever tried. Why do I keep trying this stuff?

John,

You mean it did not take out that nasty valve tap or remove your bald spot?

:-)

Yeah, I'm always the sucker on stuff like that. Who knows though. When I drain the stuff and put in regular oil again, some noises might come up that I didn't notice went away the first time. I doubt it though.

I've noticed a HUGE difference using Lucas in older vehicles, but not with newer stuff.

My IIA loves it. My Disco doesn't care.

Is any brand of 90w better than the other?

Thanks,
Mike B.

I just changed mine out w/ 90w redline. I got it for $7.50/ qt here in town so I felt like I got a pretty good deal. Don't know how much better it is than mobil 1 or dino. stuff though.

Gotta say I can't see the utility in spending the higher money on simple gear oil for the diffs. Now on transfer case, tranny fluid and motor oil, I do spend extra for synthetics, even though my Disco now leaks after synthetics were used for motor oil. Synthetics I guess flow into those little spaces and find their way free to my garage floor or on Mike B's driveway. LOL.

I find 80/90 does a fine job of taking out valve tap!

Lol,

If you can afford it, and don't wheel in water where you need to change it often, get synthetic. Anything to do to buy time on the difs is money well spent (IMHO)

Good point Ron. I should have mentioned as well. We are usually in water and changing diff fluids is frequent. Once I extend my breather tubes this week, hopefully this will reduce the frequency of the changes, else I have bearing problems next on my list.
