Great to have you back discoweb!
I have only seen one disco flared but it looked great. Who has pictures or leads on getting this done?

Does anybody else make paintable flares for a Disco 1? I have been looking into it and I haven't had too much luck. The ones that ECR sells have screw holes that I find unappealing. Atlantic British also sells flares for the Disco 1 that look just like the Disco 2's, but they are not paintable. Thanx

I gotta say that Alan has done the best job I have seen thus far. The flares dont clash with the truck at all. Very clean and correct looking job...

I don't need to start anymore projects but...do you think these flares would be able to fit a RRC?

Thanks for all your kind words! I got tired of waiting around for someone else to make what I needed. The one's ECR are using are nice, but are fiberglass, which I don't believe will hold up off-road very long.

Alan, what kinda a bumper is that? and the sliders? You switched from the golden nuggets rims, why?
Thanks,

John

The Bumper and sliders are custom, one-off jobs made by Rockware. Sorry, I don't know what golden nugget rims are. The rims I had before were identical to these by American Racing except they had chrome edges around the black center section and were made by Unique. Both are steel. The old ones got pretty beat up, plus I didn't care for the chrome edge.

i wondered about this too, but in conversations with a couple aussies who run these, they save your fenders. if you put anything stronger on there and catch a tree, your fender is fubar.

the flares have been used a looong time in other parts of the world. we americans are just starting to catch on to what many LR enthusiasts have been doing for decades.

given the clean look of how yours came out, all i can say is "wow". those look better than the 'glass flares, for sure.

and thanks for your response over on RRO -

cheers w/ beers,

I talked to my friend in Oregon, Warn Company is using his buddies DII as a template to build fender flares. I will keep everyone posted when I get more info.

Alan,

I love the way your flares look! I've been looking into putting flares on my '95 Disco. It's white and I don't like the way the black flares look on white so I was looking for something paintable. The only ones I've found are the ECR ones. I think these are too agressive looking and ruin the lines of the truck (just my opinion). They also have the screws on the outside where they can be seen, and don't look nearly as finished as yours. So here's the question, are the ones you used paintable? I've been told that AB sells flares for the DI, that are similar to the DII's, and they are made out of a substance that is not paintable. Any info you have would be appreciated. Thanx

Kent, are the Warn flares going to enlarge the opening any, or just extend farther out? I was entertaining the idea of cut-out flares for my DSII, and then selling them, but was quoted $1200 to have molds made. I'd have to sell alot of flares to recoup that.

Here's what I'll use. I'll update you guys as I get more specifics...

Oh, if, you're a purist, don't look. there are 35/12.50s on this 5.0L Disco with a 2" bodylift...very taboo :)

I'll get these damn pics up somehow...

Isaac, I would think definately OME's or some other load carrying springs as the ARB front bumper and skid don't dip the front end at all.

Is anybody interested in buying some flares like this? I'm going to be looking into the cost of them and then trying to get an Aussie friend or two to send them to me here in the states.

I don't see much difference between those and ECR's. Wouldn't it be just as economical to get the ECR's for $325? They look great to me, and solve alot of problems associated with large tires. I'm just envious 'cause there aren't any out for DSII's yet. I hope the Warns are cut-outs.

Are those from Rangie Spares in Oz? The ones they sell are also fiberglass. Looks like the same ones that ECR uses....hmmm. In answer to the the question are mine paintable, I don't think so, but don't know for sure. They're from a DII, so you may want to check with LR.

Don't know yet what they are, but the lines look slightly different to me than the ECR ones from Rangie Spares.

I'll keep you guys posted when (if) this guy gets back to me...

Hopefully, it's a little ECR competition...and a non-fiberglass flare.

I am in love with the nice squared off lines that match the disco wheel arch so perfectly... Damn I gotta have a set.... :)
