When there are 4wheels on ground= 4WD
When there are 3wheels on ground=3WD
2Wheels=2WD
1Wheel=1WD
All the new Land rovers built after the Series models got all permanent 4Wheel drive.
Now whats your problem(driveshaft),I didnt get it?
Greatings from good old Germany!

Sorry, It's just that this was probably the 5th thread where an anon poster made sarcastic remarks.

OTTO,
With the open diff:
4 wheels on the ground=4WD
3, 2, 1, wheels on the ground = 0WD

Am I correct?

no, if you have 1 wheel of the ground you still got 2 wheeldrive(unless your spinning, then you got one wheel in the air spinning, then another tire on the ground spinning. with 1 front wheel off the grount, and 1 rear wheel off the ground, you got 2 wheels spinnin in the air, and the others doing nothing.....
(this is if you mean open diffs front and rear, not open center diff, this info is if you got the center diff locked)

Charlie,

if the vehicle moves at all, it's as many wheels' drive as there are wheels on the ground.

not neccesarily...if you have open front diff, and you lift a front wheel, you are in rear wheel drive...unless you have ETC or lockers, and your CDL is engaged.

Mr. Anon:

If your center diff is locked, your front wheels will scrub when you turn them hard to the right or left and try to go forward.

Thanks,
Mike B.

I'm thinking that if you have open diffs and your center diff lock is not locked you have one wheel driving the truck. If you have open diffs and your center diff is locked then you have two wheels driving the truck. If all your diffs are open and you put one wheel in the air you are not going anywhere and that one wheel will just spin.
