Justin, I'm using #2 up front (but my winch and bumper are off right now) and 5 in the rear. In the rear, I have custom upper and lower mounts that have my rear shocks forward at a 45 degree angle, meaning they are only 70% efficient (thus the 5 setting), but I get a 2:1 travel ratio from the shock. Of course, with the DSII rear suspension, I can't use that much travel anyway, but I'm too lazy to make new mounts again.

I have heard that running with a setting of exactly 3.25 is optimal for the magic knobs. Ofcourse you will need Rancho part #DZ6001RA to make this finite adjustment...And the ambient temp should be around 70 degrees when you change the setting. If not the shocks internal flux capacitor will get an air bubble in it and you will have to remove the shocks and store them upside down for a week before remounting....

kyle

you can achive said 3.25 by using the I wanna buncha air lines kit part #RANRS9700K
kyle

the calibrated analog gauges in the kit are flux capacitor compatible.

needed constant attention sold seperatly

On-road, I run 4 up front and 5 in the back. I have the RoverTym 2" lift on 245/75/R16 Goodyear MTRs on the AR 16" steel wheels. I have the SafariGard bumper and skid plate and an SuperWinch X9 winch. I carry a little over 200 lbs of gear in the back.

Off-road, I change it around between 2-4 up front and 3-5 in the back; depending on the situation. I'm still trying to dial in the perfect setting.

Thanks,
Mike B.

The 'perfect setting' is 'setting' on the ground outside 'The Window'.

Well... I find the "perfect" rancho setting to be somewhere between 1-and-4, depending on what piece of crap highway you happen to be traveling at any given moment.

since no one in Tennessee can make one piece of freeway connect with any other piece of freeway without at least a 12" gap in the road, I frequently run mine between 4-and-3 with the obligatory "whhoooosh" valve dump at precise moments to avoid cracking my windshield from the jolt as I drive over a bridge - then reapply pressure to re-adjust to 4 front-and-rear, then bleed the rear back down to 3.. and ahh.. perfection.. wait... intersection up ahead.. whhhhoooooosh! slinky..slinky..whhhhrrr. ahhh... (and no, Tom, that's NOT my tcase shifter you hear..)

occasionally, when not adjusting my ranchos and calculating alternate routes on my nav-laptop, I glance at the road ahead to see where the hell i'm going.

I love feedback like this!

I am not in love with the Ranchos either. I think they crap out when I really need them. What other options are there? I'm running the RoverTym upper shock mounts on 2" springs and the Rancho RS9000 9234s.

Thanks,
Mike B.

I was also running the remote adjusters. After many, many, many failed attempts at getting them to not leak, I finally said to hell with it and converted back to manual. Damn, now my interior isn't as sexy as I wanted! Seriously, though, if you can get them to work, the adjusters allow very fine tuning. I guess I just wasn't smart enough to figure it out (Man, I'm setting myself up with that one!).

Shit, they're just shocks, gentlemen...just there to control the bouncy...why complicate the concept?

Kyle

Exactly , there is enough complication there that more then two thirds of them cant fix now. Why take something so simple and make it a maintenance item ?

It's a Jeep thing, you'd not understand.

I am using the Ranco 9000s with the RTE 3" lift kit. The shocks are set to #4, and provide a good firm ride. Since I am not running sway bars, firmer is better. When running the front and rear shocks at different settings (ie. 3 front, 4 rear) I felt the rig was much less stable and managable. Since I am not running sway bars, firmer is better.
