would the teflon or cad coating on lugs be compromised by wrenching (thereby returning them to that pretty rust color)? Just wondering... |

Cad will last longer than the the powder coated ones, when impacted will start to chip, The ones I am having made will be gold cad plated |

Not strong enough, The ones i am having made will be 90 to 110 RC (Rockwell Hardness) The stockers are around 40 to 50 RC give or take |

What matl are you using that will HT to a RC 110? Just curious.... Maybe too hard for an impact wrench? |

As the hardness rises, so does the brittleness(typically). Do lug nuts really need to be extra hard? Except for the odd occasion, they never see much in the way of abrasion. They do however, take a fair bit of shock and the excessive brittleness may not be good thing. Maybe you shoudl be looking for a metal with a better yeild strength, rather than hardness |

just wondering, i've never seen a lug nut failure on a rover. the nuts are huge, why build a better mouse trap when the stock ones are fine? |

my steel lug nuts are rust instead of black after only 1 1/2 years of use. if somebody would make something that would look good for a longer amount of time, even though i use an impact evertyime i remove the wheels (which is often), i would be interested. however, i wouldn't upgrade for a stronger nut. tom |

discodad, so i know how much for the lugs? annon, have you looked at the prices of sliders, diff protectors and the lot? is it not wild how you pay 500. plus dollars for about $75. of steel and a few welds? i find it strange that you arent blasting them for over-pricing old technology. geez i hate pu$$y who flame on people and dont put there name on the post. if you dont like what the man is offering then ignore it. its not your website, you dont pay one cent for it being here, so if someone wants to improve or has an idea to improve on a product and wants to share then by all means let him (or her). if you dont want the product move the F@#$ on. geez, it has to be one of those nissian guys. he is not spamming us and it he gets to the point that he is a pain in our asses then kyle, axel or the site owners will step in and end it, til then please keep you pie hole closed unless you are gonna put your name to your weak ass postings! |

dd, be very careful if you are really planning on making lug nuts that high on the rc scale. Is it possible you are thinking of rockwell 'b' instead? Or possibly a plating (like chrome) that makes it that hard? As Chris mentioned, more hard is not particularlly more good (ha). Ron A |

For the POS Cave dweller Anon, the lugs I am having made are the same metal and process that are used for large trucks and also for the race truck applications. And will be gold cad plated The price the stockers from 1.99 to 4.99 each. I plan to sell them at 1.25 each and give a set away with the sale of Bead lock rims Discount Rovers will carry soon. I will post that information. Oh and the reason is not to replace striped ones but to provide a better quality product at an affordable price. |

Dee This is NOT an attack - I like what you guys do, but the lug nuts used on class 8 trucks are two piece affairs made to SAE 1045 rc 26-32 on the nut and SAE 4140 rc 28-34 on the contact washer, which is much softer than you have spec'd. This spec comes from some of the largest truck lug nut suppliers - Metaform, Alocoa and Okabe. Admittdly, these are tightened to 390-440 ft lbs, so softer is necessary. You may also want to investigate the teflon coating used on these which withstand better than 200 hours of salt spray with no signs of corrosion. Just wanted to make sure someone wasn't feeding you any bad info. Thanks for checking out options and coming up with some new stuff.... Bill |

Thanks Bill, Ill post the actual specs on the lugs when I pick them up. The manufacture makes lugs for a lot of the custom wheel applications also for Race applications both on and off road and for commercial trucks. I gave them a stocker lug nut to improve upon the quality and durability of it and also protect the finish I chose Gold Cad, I can get them in Black oxide but why?. Blue, I wanted to keep the cost down to 1.25 and specialty coatings ill leave to the buyer. But the process does look nice Thank's |

Dee, that's fantastic that you will be another source for wheels & nuts especially the beadlocks. Myself and a couple other guys have been trying to get beadlocks for several months but apparently the manufactures are somewhat reluctant to drill for 6.5 holes. Are your plans for steel or alum? If we get to vote I would like to lobby hard for alum. For those that use their rigs in the rocks I can tell that the alums are worth the cost. As for the lugs if youre going to have them cad plated Gold (although they call it yellow) maybe you could have a batch done in blue (the other common cad). Black Oxide isnt normally a good coating for a part that sees a wrench, but P.T.F.E. (aka Teflon) is one of the best surface protectors available. The lug nuts made for race trucks (and cars for that matter) are designed for a specific purpose as Bill pointed out and are rarely (if ever used) reused on the vehicle. Look forward to hearing about the beadlocks. Ron A |

Ron, Wow postive feedback thanks Blue, not going to go there with a naked nuts comment HeHe About the lugs I just checked gold silver cad or black oxcide is all the choices I believe these to be the best and strongest steel bead locks made. I will look into an aluminum model if there is some intrest. As for pictures I have been waiting on UPS to deliver my Digital Camera since the 21st, great 3 day service. according to UPS it should arrive today. If any one is interested send me a email, If you have or have used bead locks you will like these ones and as always we will price them affordable. Now let the Bead Lock war begin. Blue let me Know how the coating works out, |

Hey Dee, Don't get discouraged with Idiot's that post anonymously! I like the service that you provide very much, and am glad that you guys take the time to improve the shortcomings of our Disco's. As you'll notice I'm not alone, so keep up the good work and I look forward to changing these stupid lugs with a functional decent lug. |

Dee, No offense but series III lugnuts are ideal for a disco with steel wheels. Not sure of the finish but the ones off of a 73 that lived in canada still were pretty black when I got to them. No need for custom IMO. David Gage (www.thatchedroofgarage.com) has them for 1.35 a pop or so new. Now I have never done this but it was my understanding that you made the lugs of a less hard material for several reasons. 1. Allows accurate torque and enough "stretch" to keep them in place (hard lugs I see a repeat of GBR axle flange bolts) 2. If you overtorque them the nut strips not the studs. And the stock ones are TERRIBLE. Those damn caps. Check out the lugs on the disco next time and you will see I put my money where my mouth is on that one (non capped early RR lugnuts) Ron |
