I may be in the market to get a move to the series II from my 96 Disco and was wondering if anyone here can give me a detailed break down of the different models and trim levels from 99 on. I need to know things like does a 2001 SD7 come with leather or is it Duragrain? What did a SE come standard with in 2000? Etc... Thanks for any help...Jeff |

I can say that in 1999 there wasn't a trim level for the Disco II. You didn't have an SE or SD. There was a seven seat option but it didn't get labled with a trim level. |

Man, where to begin? I'm most knowledgeable about the 2001 line... All SDs - duragrain All LEs - Cloth / Leather All SEs - Leather with Duragrain jumpseats in the SE7 If you have more specific questions, e-mail me and I can dig up my product line catalog |

I have an SE 2001. I think it also adds the sun roofs. |

I don't think the 2000's had the trim levels either. Mine's a base model with just the leather option that included the HK sound system. 5 passenger, no roofs, and no badging at all. |

Yeah, the stereo is different I believe in the 2001 models from SD to SE. Those were the only two levels in 2001. Mine has Phillips/Pioneer components in it. Not sure about the trim level, beyond the seats already mentioned. I think the SD's in 2001 had the same wood strips, but maybe not. Most of the differences are cosmetic only. |

99's didn't have duragrain. It was either cloth or leather. 2000's had duragrain available and it had really obnoxious cloth panels on the doors. In 2000 almost everything was a la carte. In 2001 and 2002, all SEs have sunroofs, leather, and a cd changer. If you have a specific question, it's easier to answer that instead of giving a broad overview. Each year has minor changes that are generally cosmetic. Badging doesn't mean a whole lot, either. |

Heres a bit that is completely out of order, I am going to bed. BTW, I drove a duragrain vehicle the other day and got two impressions. One: Duragrain kicks ass royally. It warrents at least a test drive to see. I reccomend this for off roaders, because It really grips your ass. (of course you could get seat covers to make the leather more grippy). The second impression was that the 2002 Discoveries are much better built than the previous models. They feel more solid, and every thing works. I didn't realize until I drove the 02 that my fuel door didn't open properly. Be careful, in 2001 was the only bloody year Harmon Kardon didn't do the premuim audio system with their 300 watt system. The 01 guys (read:my sorry ass) got a 210 watt system made by Phillips. Don't get me wrong, it still kicks ass it's just the slap in the face of owning the ONLY damn year... Oh well, I am redoing some of the interior trim pieces with wood and diamondplate...Maby I will upgrade. Cheers, Kennith |

If you don't want the sunroofs I'd opt for the cheaper version. You can have someone put a better stereo system in for the money saved plus have a little left over. The jump seats are pretty pricey as well. You have to think "is someone really going to sit there". KD 02 disco SE |

I think $1000 for rear seats is a steal! It gives you the beefier suspension in the rear, the retractable rear step, and separate audio controls with headphone jacks for the rear. And they are real rear seats now, not just the little wimpy ones of yesteryear. |

But only if you are going to use all that stuff. I'm glad I didn't get all that stuff on mine. I got good advice from my dealer.. hehehe.... and went with a plain SE with 16inch rims..... good choice. (got a roof rack now too, Alyssa) Anyway, unless you can get an SE on clearance Clarance, I would probably opt for the SD too.

What do we think of a 2000 with 37K for $25K? It has Harmon Cardon system, sun roofs, Leather, white with tan interior. Seems to be in great shape. |

Alyssa, Not to be a pest, but I don't feel as you do about the rear seats. I have a 2001 SE, as you have probably figured from my postings. Now for my opinion. If you do indeed feel that someone will be sitting back there (ideally kids), it is a steal, really. It can be their area, complete with two toy boxes for their kiddie gear. The seats are also duragrain, so the kiddies can't mess them up. All this matters none if either you don't have kids or don't feel anyone will ever sit back there. The extra equipment will be soon removed or replaced on a vehicle that is driven off road, and the seats will get in the way on the long haul. I, in hindsight, might have gotten an SD if I not been lured by the idea of leather seats. Hell, the vinyl really looks and smells like leather, and feels like it too. The SD is probably the route for off roading, and that's what my salesman, Dale, told me. I didn't listen of course. BTW, those rear headphone modules and rear air are things I wish I had. And I may stop by Main Line next week so I can put at least 1 face with a name. I am deploying the 5th though, so I may not have time. Cheers, Kennith |

I have a 99 disco II. It has 7-seats, HK sound, Leather, cold climate, dual sunroofs, leveling, hill descent everything but ACE, and it has no label: just a series II. Seems in 99 things at LR were simple. C.W.Oakes |

Alyssa, I actually like my obnoxious cloth panels on my doors. I feel as though I am reliving the old show from the '70's "Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom" Oh and Greg, I caught that "clearance Clarance" remark up there. Paul LOL '00 D2 |

$25k is too much. I sold my '00 for $26.5k with 22k highway miles, leather, sunroofs, cold climate, harmon kardon, CD, and in MINT shape. |

"The seats are also duragrain, so the kiddies can't mess them up" The earlier 7 seats were real leather. I forget the crossover, mid 01 maybe. Also, as with all land rovers, weird things can happen. SE without roofs. SD with leather not duragrain. In 1999 it was cloth on the base though maybe some late 99s were duragrain. I had all the differences figured out but things like the black piece instead of wood, no headlight squirters or fog lights, and different wrap on the steering wheel seperate SE and SD. Ron The downside to duragrain is that it does not breathe like leather so it is less comfortable on long trips. If it was not so ghetto looking cloth manual seats would be my favorite |

ron are u calling my cloth/manual seat disco a ghetto ride? another thing about the "duragrain" is that it sticks to you like velcro. |

$25K is too much, I paid 25K for my 00 SD over a year ago, and it only had 17,000 miles and came with free scheduled maintenance thru 45,000. Look around more and you can probably do better. |
