my '98 D1. Hal Moses at Autowarranies sold it to me. Searched archives and he seemed to be reccomended. Any expierence with these warranties. I'm still a little nervous about purchase decision. |

It will give me another 3 years and 15K miles per year. $100 deductible and should cover everything except for wear items. Anybody else with any expierences from extended warranty? |

I bought the same warranty from the same person. Found out the hard way that it doesn't cover seals. Sure, it will cover the bearing of it goes, but my rear main seal cannot be replaced under this warranty. They also won't cover "sticking valves." You have to prove its somethng else if you want head work done on it. I'm not very inspired at this point. My dealer came up with a laundry list of things that should be looked at once they found out I had coverage. After the dealer failed to sort things out with the warranty folks, i took my disco home. Figured I'd have to live with the leaking seals. Which i really don't mind. When I called Hal on it, he told me how I just got the warranty and I shouldn't have listed all of these things because it might "alert" them that something is going on. Sorry for the long post. I'll remain anon on this one. |

I'm going to inquire again. I was told it would cover all seals and bearings. Not sure about the sticking valve though. |

Ya better read the policy. Hal sold me the same policy and I couldn't get my stearing box fixed for leaks and window regulators other non specified equitment. Looking for another policy to fill the gaps. |

warranty / insurance policies not doing what they advertise? Now there's a surprise.... unfortunately you have to get creative if you want things covered. |

I hear ya Blue, the combination of extended warranty AND dealership conjures up real nightmares. |

True, it could be a real nightmare, but I am certainly not good with a wrench under the hood. I figure while I might be disapointed in coverage as to what I expect should be covered, I imagine more items will be covered then I think. Make any sense? |

I purchased an extended warranty through Universal Automotive Services / Omniauto for another vehicle (non-Rover). With the exception of an administrative error, they seem to be very good about coverage. I made a claim 58 days after purchase and it took about 70 days for payment from the dealer to the warranty co. to be officially recognized. Once they realized it was their admin mistake, they paid for a new SUV rental while my truck sat at the dealer awaiting repair authorization. I paid $1700 for 3yr/36k coverage and I had $1200 in new AC system work done less than 1000 miles into the warranty. My deductible is $100, but they only required $65 deductible for the work (I didn't ask questions). The Universal Automotive rep I dealt with felt so bad about my inconvenience that he sent me a check for $100 to cover the standard deductible. So I actually came out with a new AC system and $35 cash. |

Before you buy, ask yourself this question: How old is your truck regarding age/mileage? Don't purchase a warranty that excludes this and that during the rig's early years or you will be frustrated will Hal. What typically goes wrong in early years versus later years is the premise of a warranty purchase, then consider other factors such as climate/off-road useage, etc. Yup, this mismatch of coverage versus the rig's lifecycle will annoy you and burn a bigger hole in your pocket by paying for fixes that are not covered by the wrong warranty. Seems like an obvious point to consider. |

Well I just purchased a '96 with 61,500 miles. I've been looking around for a warranty and wanted to get the platinum level or whatever they're called. The most comprehensive warranty I found was Viking's but it was $5440 for their "Deluxe" coverage. Nobody else I've found will touch my vehicle except www.autowarrantybrokers.com who offer a powertrain/engine/transmission/rental/roadside warranty for 5yrs/100k miles, 0 deductible for $648. It's some sparse coverage for a sparse price. Has anybody had any experience with them? I've read the fine print and it seems fairly typical - change the oil every 3k miles, etc. Thanks, - Andrew. |

Well just rental and roadside for about 10 bucks a month is a good deal! I am going to check that out. Does that include the ECU? Tom |

powertrain/engine/transmission that's the big stuff - major $$$$ to repair/replace. 5yr/100k coverage with $0 deductable for only $648 sounds pretty good. I just wonder what they'd say if your engine blew or trans bit it...would they say "We'll have a new engine for you in no time" or would they say "Please refer to page 182, sub-paragraph IIC of your warranty contract. It clearly states that seals are not covered. Since a leaking seal contributed to the blown engine, your claim is denied." |

Mine is the elite warrnaty coverage. It is an exclusionary policy that seems to me to cover everything except for wear items like brakes rotors, clutch, exterior trim and interior upholstery. It was real similar to what Land rover would offer me but certainly cheaper. Plus Hal has been easy to deal with thus far. |

Hi. I filled out the quote request at autowarranties.com so we'll see what they can do too. The Sentinel coverage at www.autowarrantybroker.com seems to have reasonable exclusions and limitations - I was just wondering if anybody else had any experience with how easy they are to deal with in reality. I'll wait until I hear back from autowarranties before I get anything though. |

Just as it has been stated above, make sure seals and gaskets are covered, you do drive a Land Rover and they do tend to leak. |

Here's the pertinent info in the small print about seals: - Gaskets and external seals will be covered if their replacements is necessary to keep an otherwise authorized repair. - The internal components of the automatic transmission or manual transmission and drive chain, drive chains gears, carrier bearings, internal transaxle seal. - Seals and Gaskets: Head gaskets and intake manifold gaskets are covered for coolant leaks only on vehicles up to 100,000 miles. So it sounds like they don't cover most seals unless they're fixing something else anyway. The price quoted to me was $1335 for 2 years / 24,000 miles with a $100 deductible. This is for a "Premier Plan". I could put in the rest of the small print and can if anybody's interested. Those of you with Discoveries, what's the chance that I'll end up spending over $1335 in the next 24,000 miles on a '96 discovery with about 63,000 miles? I don't really know what to expect so I'm wondering if this is worth it or not! Thanks for any opinions, - Andrew. |

That's 5.5 cents per mile for warranty coverage! Watch the odometer and toss a nickel out the window every mile. That is ridiculous! Absurd! Idiodic! Moronic! Asinine! |

I disagree, if you do not know how to fix cars or do not have the time, a small repair on a landrover can be quite expensive. Every time I have been in for general service they find some warranty work and bill LR between $800 and $1000. Now the 5.5 cents per mile might seem like a lot but think how much we spend on gas for these wonderful beasts. Figure $1.30 per gallon of gas ( which is cheap) and 13 miles per gallon (which is high) you spend about a dime for each mile you drive. Makes me want to ride my Trek more often. |

IMHO, no! If you are inclined to spend more $$ on a policy that covers all and excludes only listed items, then do so, you will be happier. Now if you can turn a wrench, you have the tools, facilties and your rig is not your primary transport to and from work, then your stated policy, again IMHO is ok. It covers the big stuff that even when you supply your own labor, parts are damn expensive. I say this becuase it sounds exactly like my policy. Choose carefully. |

We just extended ours for another 50K miles and feel for us it was the way to go since I am not a great mechanic. With the wheeling we do, at some point if the trans, engine or diff goes, the cost of replacing them already more than paid for what we paid for the warranty. Chris von C |

Well I'm not much of a mechanic. I'm open to being one, but I just don't have the time either. Even finding a warranty is hard as I live in California and many places won't service me. That and I have a Land Rover Discovery, ha ha. There was one more comprehensive warranty available from another company, but it was almost $3500. Ouch. I spent almost $9000 (really I did) in repairs on my '88 Jeep Cherokee that this Discovery is replacing. And that was in about 18 months of owning the truck. So you could say I'm no stranger to high repair bills... |

I bought a warranty from Consumer's Choice ( www.ccwarranty.com ) for my wife's mini van. Paid about $800 for 4yr 100k w/ zero$ deductible. (They had a special for $100 off and zero $ deductible if paid in full when I bought it.) I got their best plan... it's an exclusionary policy. All of their plans include gaskets and seals, roadside rescue, etc. I know the Rovers will cost more, but they're worth looking into. We had to use the coverage last month when her AC went out. Dealer bill was over $1500, and we paid zero. So, needless to say, I'm very happy with them. -Tommy |
