Hi all, I have a 1995 V8i discovery.
I searched all over the net yet I can't find the part number for the oil pump gears (3 gears that fit inside each other), anyone knows? Also an average price for them, new, would be very helpful. Thanks.

If you have an oil pump that is integral with the front cover (unlike the earlier 3.5 and 3.9s with a separate oil pump) you will have to replace the entire front cover/oil pump assembly. According to the factory service manual and overhaul manual, this oil pump with the 3 gears is not rebuildable. A new front cover/oil pump will probably cost @ $350.

Are you the same AW that was on here a couple months ago? Can't remember your problem, deep engine knock of flickering oil light? As I remember, you have a 3.9 "C" suffix motor...what country are you in?

Thanks Norm for the help. My mechanic went ahead and replaced just the oil pump gears, the car running fine so far (1 day). And yes it's me from a couple of months ago, fixed that knock, engine bearings were bad. And I'm in Cairo, Egypt. Thanks again.

If your oil pump went bad, that probably contributed to the bad bearings, although you probably would have heard it in the upper valve gear first. Did you get an oil pressure reading before you changed out the pump parts (your mechanic should have done it when you first brought it in)? If not, I'd sure do it now, especially since you only changed the gears. A US "B" suffix v8 motor should make 40 psi at 2500 rpm.

Thanks, I will look into the oil pressure reading, haven't done that at all.
