Pretty cool! Got to see the new Disco yesterday at the new Land Rover dealer in Frisco Texas. They apparently got them in early. Doesn't look all that changed apart from the obvious exterior changes. Didn't get a chance to drive but they told me it was night and day with that 4.6. Anyone local should go check them out. They had an S model similar to an SD which looks to be base at I believe $34K and a more appointed model for 39K.

BTW, that's not a Disco III. It's a 2003 Disco 2

Technically is a "New Discovery 2003". LR has droped the Series II designation, post launch it will be known as simply Discovery 2003. This way they don't have to have the Disco 4 in 2004...

Although IIa would be in keeping with previous Land Rover nomeclature, apparently it's too passe for current corporate thinking (many of whom were not even born when the IIa was launched!

I guess they changed there minds. As of spring of 2002 they where going to call it the Discovery IIa since they had planned on bringing out the Disco III around spring/summer of 2003. Well i`ll always call it the IIa.

FYI.

I've seen the DIII. I have a 2001 DII and love it.

I was asked to look at and give feedback on the New Range Rover, the New DIII and a surprise...

All are really cool and I would sell my Impala SS to get the surprise...

Have a great Saturday.

I guess I should have made that last post clearer...

I am talking about the REAL DIII.

Probably not out until 04-05 model year.

Many changes... some great, some... well... hope that they are concept only.

They are pretty nice.

I am going to call it the IIa whether people like it or not. I am keeping my SII (the original).

I disliked the HSE7 . . . too many letters. The tan leather is really light and the black is really dark, no happy medium for the not wanting hot interior and not wanting dirty seats.

Main Line just got them on Sat.

So "Lost in the West" was the surprise a 3-door Freelander convertable (t-bar roof, removeable rear)?

I'm betting the surprise is a defender of some sort....I'm going for a '99 D1.

The three door Freelander arrives NA in late fall (Nov). Next up is a 'sport' Range Rover to compete with the X5, then the new generation Discovery and then it is a toss up between a new entry level Land Rover called the Landie or the next generation defender. It maybe a few years out but NA will definitely get the Defender.

I looked at the aforementioned IIas at LR Frisco, too. I thought we were supposed to get a CDL?? I don't think those vehicles had one. The t-case lever looked the same as the '02s.

Otherwise I liked it. Especially the improved approach angle.

Oh, they moved the fuel filler release up to where the fog light switches are. I thought that was a good idea...

Deepthroat has a great crystal ball.

The surprise is a competitor for the X5 and it is very cool.

For the new DIII LR has listened to the consumer on the rear doors (much larger) but they have missed out on some of the Discovery requirements. The rear door is no longer a swing out and the rear seats cannot be accessed from the rear and..... no more alpine windows!
And, a much longer wheelbase.

But... 3 sunroofs. & real factory cup holders!

Anyways, as the freelander has cheapened the Land Rover marquis here in USA, the new model is going to add alot to the mix. I will probably get one as a replacement to my large sedan when it comes out.

God... a two land rover/range rover family... what does it mean.
