120 in a sports car down vail pass would be scary...I'm impressed with the disco handling it! I got mine up to 115ish on I-25 trying to catch a little corvette that cut me off. I think he was a bit surprised that he saw me keep up (a little) in his rear view mirror. That was the last time I ever had the truck over 90. Just a bit too freaky for me..and I could never afford the gas mileage.

I love my Disco, and I love wheeling,

I have to say, though, that I equally love shredding tarmac in any lovingly designed car. My personal favorites are Porsches and BMWs (allright, Lotus cars are addictive, too.)

The by far best "sleeper" on the road though is the Disco II. I have won so many duals with the damn thing it's not funny. (OK it is funny :) )

Thunderbird RIP (bought me dinner for kicking his ass)

Mercedes RIP (bought me a cigar for kicking his ass)

Saturn RIP

Mustang RIP

Explorer RIP

Mitsubishi 3000 GT RIP (he couldn't drive)

Dodge Daytona RIP (was a real prick about me kicking his ass)

Dodge Intrepid RIP (really tried hard but I cut him off in a corner)

I am going to miss that handling when I lift it, and the grip when I put the off road tires on it. I can't imagine how they handle with ACE.

The transmission is really easy to control with shift limitation and throttle work. I'm sure some of you guys have sports cars and can appreciate the •••••• that is attached to the Disco. :)

I've been to the limit of the speedo, 130, The engine is supposed to be governed at 110, but I can't tell that mine is. About 5000 miles into it's life it suddenly "got a case of the ass" and the throttle really became more responsive. At first it was suprising, but I am quite used to it. During servicing, nothing was found wrong, and it was attributed to dirty fuel injectors being cleaned off.

I can't really drive it too aggressivly anymore, because my tires are worn from off roading. My next car is going to be an M3. I just have to pay this off...

Anybody else have such a great story to tell?

Cheers,

Kennith

I get mine up to about 70mph and start praying. Makes decent work of 65mph but hates hills with those 235 85s and no sway bars...

I hit 90 on the way to a seven alarm fire on rural two lane road. Luckily, light and siren equals only a stern warning by local highway patrol as state law has no speed limitations for an emergency vehicle other than "with due regard to safety."

My dosco hates hills too...

They are accurate if you haven't changed tire size.

All speedos are required by law to be calibrated within a certain accuracy window. Otherwise, radar guns would be of no use, because you didn't know how fast you were going. There is actually a little technicality in PA saying you can't change tire size without adjusting your speedo, though the police rarely enforce it.

Kennith

I don't have any problem to hit 110-115 on my Disco II if I'm late and I have to pick up my
kids from the school.:-) Of course, the gas mileage is a different story.

By the way guys, if you want to race, get F1, no Land Rover.

:)

I love to race, it's just in my blood. Problem is, I can only afford to pay on 1 car at a time. When I pay this off I'll get an M3, and enter races.

Cheers,

Kennith

"All speedos are required by law to be calibrated within a certain accuracy window."

well then, if there's a law, then there certainly is no chance that your speedo could be off. LOL

Guys,

I got 100mph (160kph) on mud terrains on the trip to the red centre of Australia. With the road michelins i got slightly improved speed but a hell of a lot of improvement in the stability and pure drivability of the disco96 at the same speed.

97 mph on the GPS
1994 3.9
130,000 miles at the time
4.10s
255/85 BFG MT KMs
2.5" lift
Loaded with luggage coming back from vacation.
A Mustang and a Corvette went flying by to clear out the cops, so I thought I would try it out.
When I slowed down my wife was wondering what I was doing.
It rode very smooth and in control for the situation.
