What are the PROPER steps in bleeding Discovery II brakes? If the brakes are spongy, will bleeding solve the problem? |

You need a tube to fit tight over the bleed nipple and a container [glass jar] to catch the waste brake fluid. Keep the free end of the tube below the waste fluid to prevent air re-entering the brakes. Bleed furthest wheel from the master cylinder first. Then next furthest etc, finishing with nearest wheel. Use new, unopened brake fluid. [Stored open brake fluid absorbs moisture and should not be used.] Remember to tighten the bleed nipple on a downward pressure of the brake peddle. Allow the master cylinder sufficient time to refill before the next press of the brake peddle. Finish each wheel after clean fluid, without air bubbles, flows out of the bleed tube into a container. It could be worth your effort in removing each bleed nipple to check the mating surface is OK. If in doubt buy new nipples. It cheaper than wasting your time and brake fluid. |
