In the '02 Disco manual, it states: "if vehicle fails to start, press unlock button." Would this indicate that Land Rover is aware that there is a problem at times with starting the Disco? Anyone know of any other car having this in their manual?

No this is not the reason. The reason for this being in the manual is that when you super lock your truck it disengages the ignition system. So by useing the UNLOCK feature on your remote it will undo the super lock and re-enguage your ignition. There are many reasons this can happen. For example, a Cell Phone with the proper frequancy may beable to engauge the super lock system or any out side high frequancy or infrared interfearence. This is a common problem with any infrared or Frequency controlled mechanisim. So understand its a problem with any thing that uses a remote like, TVs(channels change for no apparent reason), Car locks, Garage door openers, car radios(station changes for no reason) ect.

Just to clear something up infrared = light and RF (Used by Rover and most cars) = radio frequency. I think only some MB's used IR for their remotes. Think of it in terms of your remote for your (or most) TV. You can't go into the other room and use the remote since it's IR. But your cordless phone is RF and you can walk all over your house and still use it but you might get interference from another cordless phone.

But you are correct that intermod and other interference can cause problems. BMW's remotes will not unlock the car if there is too much interference to prevent someone from trying to hack their way into the car. But it will start (or unlock) with the key because the car will read a code on a chip in the key. Rovers issue is that it will unlock the car but the alarm will still disable the ignition. Super lock only activates the internal motion sensor (on a D2).

The key to the last remark is that if the remote unlocks the car shouldn't the alarm that disables the ignition also now be unlocked so to speak. I have never superlocked the car. The remote frequency for some reason unlocks the car but sometimes fails to disengage the alarm so that you have to press unlock again. I have had my Disco since Nov. '01 and this problem has just happened recently. Could it be that I need a newly programmed remote? There has to be a fix for this problem, albeit a minor annoyance.

I don't know if there is a fix for the problem but yes this is a bug. I have had it happen to me once since 1999 so it's not something that happens often.

BTW- if you've used the remote to lock the car you have superlocked it. If you don't want to superlock the car you need to use the key in the door and lock it the old way sans remote.

Al- Not so in my 2001. I have to push the remote button twice to superlock my truck.

Three are two distinctly different sounds when I superlock the truck as opposed to one locking sound when I push the button once.

I experience the same problem with my remote from time to time, 2001 SD...
