I am in need of some new tires for my disco because of bad wearing and feathering. I went to a tire place and he came and looked at it and said the wear was due to leaking shocks. My local dealer said all Rover do something called sweating and is normal and the tire wear was due to the full time 4x4 and cheap tires on it from Land Rover.

My question is is this true or crazy. The cheap tires thing I can underdstand but "sweaty" shocks.
Enlighten me!!

I just had my tires replaced and was informed of the same thing by the tire shop manager. The shock had blown and had leaked. The washer, bushing, and etc. was hanging loose. I took it to the dealership and they claimed that it was operating under normal parameters. I've had a bad vibration/shake since before I got the new tires and now its worse. I've been told (by many people) that the blown shock is making the tire bounce and shake. I've tried explaining this to lr but they won't listen. They will listen in 1500 more miles when I must pay!!!!

33k is enough to wear out stock shocks.
Switch to Bilsteins and stick with Michelin tires, those goodyears/pirellis do wear out quicker

sweaty shocks....that's funny. Back in the day when I used to ask the Rover dealer questions, they told me that blown shocks were normal, too. Full-time 4WD will contribute to "cupping" of your tires, but insufficient dampening can & will certainly make it worse. I think your term "feathering" is probably the same as cupping - every other shoulder lug is worn down. In the right light, you can see a black/white checker pattern on the shoulder lugs. Replace the shocks and tires and you should be fine. Also rotate tires frequently.

Jack, drive your Disco straight off the road, call roadside assistance, have your Disco towed to the dealer, storm into the dealer's showroom elbowing customers out of the way, and scream about how your "normal" shocks almost killed you and your family. They'll slap 4 new shocks on there in no time. Then, go home and remove those 4 new shocks and replace them with an aftermarket shock (Old Man Emu or Bilstein). Then take those new shocks, sawzall them in half, return them to the dealer, and ask them if they're still operating within normal parameters.

I can't stop laughing Blue! That's (I can't even type) so funny!!!!! Within in the next week, I'm going to replace with the Bilsteins. I think that it's a shame that the dealer won't listen to the customer. Aren't we the ones that drive them anyway? I know every f'n vibration, ding, scratch, buzz, etc. that it has. I KNOW when new problems arise. It's just a matter of customer service. What ever happened to the customer is always right? You'd think they would want to take care of a "future" customer!

Just a note, tires that wear quicker do not indicate cheap tires. It's just an indication of soft rubber. Soft rubber isn't a bad thing. Just ask anyone who uses performance tires, not that we should have performance tires on our Discos :)

Want good life from tires go for Yokohama Geolander AT. Guaranteed 80 000km treadwear warranty....only tire to offer this I think.
Just replaced my first set of AT's with the MT's now. Looking really good. They gave me a cool 70k (km) and still look only 50% worn.
The best part about the AT is that they really stick in the wet and snow. I am in Canada and do a lot of offroad stuff in the wet, they are a real improvement over the Michelins.
