I've got a '96 5 speed with 90K on the clock. It developed a hesitation which is very noticable at light throttle and not too noticable while accelerating. The check engine light came on after one of the more pronounced hesitations. The hesitation seems to happen only when it is cold outside, though I haven't fully tested this. It was 75 degrees on Sat and it ran great (with a new fuel filter). It ran like crap today (about 15 - 20 degrees. Additionally I have noticed a high idle (~1500) when the motor runs good and a low idle (<500) when it is running like crap. Stepper motor? I wouldn't think a bum stepper motor would cause a hesitation.(?) I replaced the fuel filter this weekend (Fram G3727 if you want to add it to the cross reference list) and it did not solve the problem. I have ordered new plugs and wires and will install them when they arrive. You guys have any other ideas? Thanks for your help, Jeff |

Jeff, Check your vacuum hoses for leaks, also similar cold hesitation on friends disco. He had a tankfull of bad fuel. We put in some "dry gas" and the hesitation cleared up in about 20 miles or so. Hope you figure it out, Ron C |

Jeff, I had a stalling problem on inclines. Sounds like some of the symptoms I had. I cleaned the stepper motor with carb cleaner, turned up my base idle and tightened the vacume hoses. Dont know which of these fixed my problem but it's gone now. Brian friend |

I have same problem, I replaced fuel filter and stepper motor and still have hesitation on cold starts. My mechanic is installing temp sensor, so I'll let you know if this resolves the problem. -Jeoffrey |
