Hi

I have installed 4.1:1 Ring and pinions from Ashcroft. I would like to know if somebody of you (with the same gears) recognice that the are a little bit noiser than the original ones. Specially when you go off the excellerater and push the clutch. Or are they just as quite as the original ones and I did something wrong with the installation. Thanks for help.
Beside I change the gearing because of my 33x10.5x15 BFGoodrich Mud Terrains.

I have the Ashcroft 4.11s in my 90. No noticable change. As Ho mentioned, check your pinion depth ASAP. If it's outside of tolerance, it could turn ugly quickly in there.

Hi HO and Neil,

Thanks for your answer. I have check the depth of the pinion with a blueprint, and it was just perfect. The noise is also not extrem and I just hear it when the car comes to a stop. Actually when the car is rolling and the clutch is pressed. Could it be that I first have to drive a couple 100 miles?
Thanks again for your help

If you were running smoother tires, maybe the noise is from the MTs.
In either case, the installation should be very precise, or else...the Gremlins will come out and play.

Back lash is too tight. Back it off just a hair and your noise will magically dissapear. What did you set the lash at?

Hi Kyle,

Thanks for your input. But you got the help me a little bit. What do you mean with Back lash. Sorry for asking, but my time in the USA is quite long ago, and specially technic english give me sometimes problem to understand correct.
Thanks for help again

Hi Nadim

Thanks for your imput, but I allready have done this. I installed again the original tires, which are really smooth and look terrible with the bigger suspension and bodylift.

I have both gears in my truck, GBR in front, ashcroft in the rear. The ashcrofts are noisy as hell!

Hmm ,Andy , I know I need to stop those fast hit and run posts... Sometimes I take too much for granted. The backlash is the gap in the mesh between the ring gear and the pinion. Although most noisey gears come from bad pinion depth its also quite possible that they set that gap up to narrow (Close , tight ,etc ,etc) If its just a little too tight you will sometimes get that low speed decelleration growl. Also at low speeds on par throttle. I would pull it and check it. You dont really wanna go any wider then about 15 thousands on it...
