Good day all! I'm sure this has been covered before but in the essence of time I would like some oppinions. I have just discovered a cut in the side wall of one of my stock Good Year Wrangeler tires. This is in addition to having the dealer tell me yesterday that I need two new front tires as they have reached the wear bars. All this with only 17k miles on them! I am not a happy camper and have never been a fan of GY Wranglers ever since I had them on a Jeep a long time ago. Looks like I am now in the market for tires. The question is which brand and what size? I just put new Dunlop Radial rover R/t at 245 75 R16 on my 96 D1 as they came highly recomended by this forum. I do not want to mess with the suspension on the series II at this point so is anyone running the Dunlop or similar tire at a slightly larger size on their stock D2? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks...Jeff |

255/70x16 and 245/75x16's will fit with no suspension mods. As for choice depends on what you do with your Disco. I like the BFG AT's for all around use and currently run 265/75's. Since you didn't say what size rim you have I'm guessing you have the non-ace 16" wheels. |

Hey Al! One question for you: Do you have a lift? I am in the same position as Jeff. Ho recommends the same as you, but can't think of anyone without a lift. I too am looking at BFG All-Terrains, as most of my driving is on the road, with some off-road time every few weekends or so. |

I have a lift now. Before OME came out with their springs I was running the 245/75x16's with no lift and they fit fine. No rubbing at all. I have seen D2's run with the 255/70x16's with no lift but there is some mild rubbing in the rear when the spring is fully compressed. The 255/70's are okay with no lift if you just remember not to hit spots that will compress the spring with any speed. The 245/75 is also what LRNA runs on the TREK events. The 265/75's fit very well with an OME (1.5") lift on the stock 16" wheels. On a vehicle with no lift and 265/75's you will get rubbing but they will work for just street use until you get a lift installed if that's something you want to do. |

Hey Folks, After I installed the OME Springs and Shocks on my '00 D2, I went in for a set of 265/75R16's. The rear's where fine, but the front tires came within a 1/2 inch or so from the stock bumper. That seemed kinda close for any off-road use so I installed a set of 265/70's instead. A few months later after trading paint with a Philly cab, I replaced the stock bumper with an ARB. Now I have more clearance for a larger tire without trimming required. So having bored you with that info, I have been looking at tires again. I had a set of the BFG AT's on my Dodge and they were a great all around tire. But have you seen the new Goodyear Wrangler MTR tire? It has some impressive tread and side wall protection. Greg Parrish is running these tires and they seem to perform well. I am still researching this and am open to opinion from those who know...... Paul |

Will the 245 75 R16 Dunlop Radial Rover R/T fit on the stock rim which I think is an 8" rim? I know people have said the trek vehicles had that size but did they have a 7" wide rim? How noisy are the GY MT/R's? What about BFG AT/Ko's? |

I don't know if the Trek vehicles ran 7" or 8" rims. I never bothered to look. But most 245/75's do require a 7" rim however the BFG AT's say up to 7.5" and I ran it with an 8" with no problems but YMMV. The MTR's are nice but they're not in the same play field as the AT/KO's. One is a mud tire while the other an all terrain. |

So Al, In your opinion, which is better: the AT/KO or the MTR? Paul |

IMO? I have never run the MTR's but from what I've seen the MTRs are better for off road use. The AT's are better for on road and snow use. For an all around tire I would have to say the AT's since that's what they're built for. |

Did I see my name up there? Paul, I put a little over 2,000 miles on the GY MTR's this past week going to GA and back, and the tires performed great on road too. Not too noisey for a MT/R and still handled great. I ended up keeping the tire pressure at 30lbs front / 36lbs rear as we had changed it a few weeks ago. The ride is much better now. I have the 235-85/16 version of the Good Year MT/R, which is 32" tall by about 9.5" wide. I chose thise size because I preferred the narrower look and because they were about $50 cheaper per tire over the 265-75/16's. Basically, for $250 more you get almost 1" more width tread. That may be a lot, but in my opinnion it wasn't worth the extra money. Besides, with a 2" lift and the 235's, you won't have to worry about any trimming on a DII with a aftermarket bumper. I don't know if the 265's can say that or not. PS - Got the roof rack patched, sanded and repainted this past week. Looks brand new. Now I just need to figure out what I'm going to add onto the rear of the rack. Well, enough about me...... Did you buy some tires yet Paul? Also, how are those sliders doing? |

Hey Greg, No I didn't buy new tires yet. I had to kick out $3k for a new heat pump / air handler for my house. I'll be back in Philly on the 17th and from there who knows........ |

Thats cool. I fully understand the "other obligations" game when it comes to rover upgrades. Don't forget when you get back that I have a copy of the rave cd for you. Hope things are going well. Greg |

Has anyone mounted Interco Super Swampers on a stock (no lift) Series II? I am wondering if the SSR-31R LT265/70R16 would work OK. I am waiting until after the warranty expires to lift it. |
