That about says it. I think my steering stabilizer in my 94' Discovery is SHOT. I get lots of wobble after a bump. So which do I buy. I want the best feedback I can get. Is stiffer better. Is the OME unit good. What are pros and cons of a stiffer unit like a Bilstein? Thanks Todd |

I have the OME (Old Man Emu) steering dampner and works great. I have slightly larger tires (245/75/R16) and it handles the extra load with no problems. Do you off-road much? If so, now would be a good time to think about relocating the steering dampner (since a new steering dampner is 1/2 of the cost of the project). You move the steering dampner to the front of your diffs (like the new D2s and the D90). After bending mine twice, I finally moved my steering dampner to the front. Several vendors make a kit that works just fine. I had mine custom made by RoverTym. Thanks, Mike B. |

yep. OME here too. relocated mine as well with Mike Ku's kit. think it cost a whopping $25/30. works the same as the others and never had an issue with either. i run 265/75/16's too. i would say most on this board run the OME unit. |

Are the DI's originally behind the Diff. Garrett? I've always wondered where everyone relocates their damper too. |

yeah they are mounted behind the diff in stock form. the relocation lifts them up a bit and moves it to the front. been very happy with my inexpensive Mike Ku relocation kit. took all of 10 min. max to install. |

You can use one from a Ford F-250. I forget the number, but that's what I'm running, and it works fine. I'll look it up this evening and post back. John at RTE recommended it to me, and I haven't had any problems. |

I took the Bilstein. see http://www.bilstein.com/specs.html for part numbers. It is gas charged and want to extend itself until fitted. But this does not influence the steering and cannot be felt when driving. Excellent quality ! I have never used OME but see no need to try them - being completely satisfied is all I can ask for. I´ve heard of some OME springs to rust and sag prematurely so made my own conclusions about their build quality, but -again- I would not want to generalize that. The steering damper can be relocated by making a mounting bracket like that on the track rod. I used a tube which was cut in half longitudinally so I could put them onto the steering rod and fix them with several hose clamps (a bigger tube being slided over the rod with a slot would do the same but necessitate removal of a drag link for fitting). A bracket with a hole to accept the damper welded onto the "sleeve" with a few reinforcing brackets was all to do. I tried it as a "prototype" but until now it did its job. H. |

A word to the wise. Even though Bilstein just recently redesigned their steering stabalizer to stop pulling to one side, they still pull to one side. I have the relocation kit and thought I would try the new Bilstein and my truck really pulled to the drivers side really bad. The Bilstien is much more pressurized than the OME. I finally went to the OME and would suggest anyone else do the same. BTW, I am a big Bilstein shock fan. It's just they haven't quite figured out the stabalizers yet. Larry |

Hi Larry, thats interesting. I really don´t notice this effect. More so others who drive the Range and do not know about the stabilizer don´t either. Could be that I have one stabilizer from Bilstein of the new type. At least for application at the original position (i.e. behind the axle) I have other peoples experience going back several years with no reported problems. Leaves me puzzled. regards, Hendrik |

Guys, I have the Bilstein dampner as well, in the stock location, have had it for 3 years now, and have not bashed it yet (lucky + smart driving)... I have not noticed any pulling to one side...actually, with my relatively bit 265/80 16 TSL radials, it has done a great job. We'll see with the 35s what it'll do...probably go for 2 OMEs by then. |

It must be due to the steering stabilizer being in the stock location. Nadim, is your truck a Defender? Just curious. I have heard complaints from many a defender owners wbout the pulling with Bilsteins. I have a Rangie with the Defender Style Stabilizer. Maybe the pulling is due more to worn out steering components on some vehicles. Who knows! Larry |

Larry... The truck started out as a 1992 Discovery. The components of which vary from SIII, Def, Disco, RR...you name it!...even DII soon. Anyways, no pulling, and stock location... |

I have the newer Bilstine in its stock location and it does not pull, the old style did. Dee |
