i checked the price for a 03 DII today, HSE model. it has all the options except for ACE. the price was 43680. i spoke with the sales person and was told that the price was not negotiable. there are no discounts and cannot be purchased via costco/credit union/ or any other type of invoice purchases to get a better price.

i had purchase cars in the past and i had always purchased them with a few hundred over invoice price.

my question for people that just bought 03 DII is ...how much did u pay for it(before tax)?

About 39,500 - 40,000 for the SE i should be gettin early this week.....and Land Rover prices are generally firm if you buy new from dealer...they usually dont like to budge on used car prices either FWIW.....

Where are you Will? Here they don't like to move on the price but they will. Generally you can get one for $500-$1500 over invoice.

Jaz,

Do not limit yourself to one dealer. Email around to every dealer within a circle of your location.

thx for the info...i will try to call around to find a good dealership. i live in the san francisco bay area. did anyone buy one recently in this area. if so, tell me which dealership you went to.

i hate haggling with salesmen over the price. so if u can tell me how much you paid, i can just walk in and tell him i want one for $xxxxx dollars.

thx

Jaz,
I was going to buy a 2001 SE DII last July & almost purchased from a dealer that would give me $1,500.00 off of sticker. Then I was playing on the internet & filled out a questioner from autobytel.com & a dealer responded back to me with $2,500.00 off of sticker no hagling or negotiating at finance time it was great. just go to their website fill out what type of vehicle you want & the options & they will call or email you within 24 hours. I did the smae for my parents three months ago for a Subaru & you get the best price possible.
Good luck,
Brian

Land rover dealers are more likely to discount from list than X over invoice. You have to forget all the Ford/Chevy/Dodge price BS. There is not as much markup on a land rover as a ford because there is no holdback/floorplan etc. On an 03 I would say most dealers will be firm on list at this point and will slowly discount more. However, I know one dealer that will sell for 1500 under list on an O3 disco now. A similar 02 would be at least twice that amount off list. However, I have to say this particular dealer is known for aggressive pricing strategies, much to the chargin of the overworked service department :) though based on the number of rovers around the policy seems to be working perfectly

Now Brian's price of 2500 is good however you have to remember that would be like 2500 off an 02 disco now. I think that is extremely unrealistic on an 03 now.

Autobytel is NOT a good idea, on a rover especially. The reason is that autobytel costs money for the selling dealer so that will be built into the price. You can do just as well or better if you negotiate.

The other thing you have to remember is rover does not have anything like a drop ship program. You pretty much have to buy from a dealer in your area where as if you want a Ford F250 you could buy from a dealer in New York even though you live in SF and just have it drop shipped to SF where you would pick it up at the local dealer. Furthermore Land Rover penalizes dealers from selling out of there official area. So even if you are near 3 dealers you are only in the official area for one so the other two would be penalized for selling you a truck.

So what I would do is go to the land rover website and find out what your offical dealer is and go in there and offer 1500 off list and say that is a fair price and if they don't want to sell it to you, you will find someone who will.

Oh, and if they don't budge, beg borrow or steal an X plan PIN number. Any ford employee can give out four and if you or someone you know works for an affiliated company (there are so many) you can get one. Also there was some thing about being a ford stockholder and mailing in a form and some people managed to get this form and send it in and got PINs. See ford-diesel.com under the ordering section BBS.

Wow... Things must have changed. When I was looking for my D2 in 1999 one dealer was offering me $500 over invoice and we searched area dealers for the Disco I wanted. That was back when BMW owned them. Good to know the new deal. Thanks.

Over invoice or off list is just the lingo, the end price is still a number and it does make a little more sense over invoice as a high option truck does have a bit more profit (much less so on rover than a ford as options don't have much markup on rovers). However, due to land rover's no obsticle pricing they tend to be more inclined to focus on the published msrp and discount from that.

Its too bad Land Rover does not permit drop shipping.

I am sure everyone would want to buy from Alyssa :)

I disagree, definitely try Autobytel, at least as a starting point. Might not net a huge savings on an '03 right now, but then as it's SO brand new, nothing might get you deep savings for a few months. I started with Autobytel and worked from their number until I got a local dealer to best it. I bought my new and loaded '01 a couple months before the '02s came out and saved several thousand off the retail price. Do your homework, it's worth it. Good luck!

Karen :)

if you live in the bay area, and you want to buy from a dealer anywhere from SF down to SJ, you are out of luck. the same family owns all 3 LR dealers, and they don't budge on new car prices. you can get a CD changer and rubber mud mats thrown in though easily.

I called the local stealership and asked about the price of a 03 SE. They quoted me in the $39K price range. I have an X plan number though my job and the price dropped to $36K. They need to finish working the numbers ( I will go Fri and test drive one with the girlfriend and get a final price) but I plan on waiting until the CDL comes back anyways.

Back in 9/99 when I was on the hunt for my DII, the dealers in the philly and wilmington areas wouldn't budge much on price. I travel extensively and concurr that there is definitely a cartel in Atlanta..no budging worth mention. Annapolis, Gaithersburg...no luck...But in Vienna, VA I hit the first chinq in the armour. In @ 1/2 hour they came within $500 of my price. List/sticker whatever term you wish for the 99 DII with everything nee ACS at the time was $42K. I took the deal made in DC, brought it to philly gave them @ 1 min to match or I was headed to Vienna. Sold in philly for $36.5. I also did some internet shopping of dealers...waste of time. However, that was then...I have know other people that have recent success online shopping cars.

Will,

Nice '03 D2 in the gallery. I take it you've had a birthday recently? Bring it to Tony's on Wednesday!
