Hi, was just wondering if anyone had any problems with either the 'FleetGuard' or 'Fram' oil filters for V8 Discos. And which is better? Thanks.

I use the ones from valvoline, they are the same size that goes on the dodge. They work fine I have never had a problem..

Mobile One Filter with mobile one synthetic oil.

Expensive, but the way to go.

After reading a report about the effectiveness of filters, I switched from fram to AC filters. Of the several brands tested, AC was the best that I had available locally.

Thanks all for your contribution. Unfortunately the only brands easily available for me locally are Fram and Fleetguard (I'm overseas). The Fleetguard brand is 4 times more expensive than the Fram here, so I wanted to make sure that it's OK to use the Fram filters and that they won't damage the Disco engine, thanks again.

Thanks gp, that was very insightful. I think I will avoid the Fram filters after reading that article.

FWIW - I've only used Fram filters with a '95 Disco that now has over 170K miles and is still spinning like a top. Although I've only used the DG16 (or the TG16 if I was feeling wealthy that day). I didn't use the standard orange one.

I think it's far more important to concentrate on changing the oil religiously every 3K miles or less.

I agree with Brian, changing the oil and filter regularly is more important than what type you use. For the last 45k miles, mosf of my filters have been from Fram.

Thanks for the input guys, you're probably right, changing the oil and filter every 3k miles is more important than the brands.

There is a valve in the oil filter that is sort of a back-flow preventer. It helps keep pressure in the system when the engine is off. A cheap oil filter will not hold the pressure (or prime) as well as it should. From my experience, the Land Rovers are more sensative to a weak check valve than other engines that I've owned.

Thanks,
Mike B.
