Take a look at the tech section here under CDL Solenoid install. There are pictures there. You'll have to feel your way from under your vehicle (with everything nice and cool) and look for the bolt in the picture below. It's the one in the middle of that disc held by the three other bolts. It sits on top of your transfer case just behind the front propshaft.

Erick!
All Discos have the CDL in the T-case, and there's several options available to be able to use it. Check tech-section here and on the Expedition Exchange for different approaches.

Frode, There are a few 2001's and all 2002's Disco II's that don't have it. Or did I miss something? But all Disco 1's do have the CDL.

Eric P., I want to say yes. All 2000's and 1999's have it but before running out and buying a solenoid or linkage I would check to make sure. If you didn't I think you'll be the first 2000 that I know of to not have one.

Thanks to all for responding ....
however i could not see anything underneath the car because the transfer case is so close to the floor pan ....impossible to check....!
i then decided to go to my rover dealer (Shelton Rover in Naples Florida) to see if they could help me solve the problem..
they did , with the help of a mechanic's mirror and a flashlight he saw the CDL bolt ....
so good news ....
by the way just for the record i bought it in may 2001 and the last digits are : 11A709731...
Sincerely Erick.

No CDL in LT230? No kidding???
Did they really build two different LT230's ???
Can anyone elaborate on this - never heard of one before, and can't see the reasons for them to introduce such complications on the manufacturing line.

Actually, the transfer case still has the potential to lock the center diff from my understanding.

Again, my understanding is that the difference is that they removed the differential lock selector housing, so in the place where you would see the selector shaft that most levers/linkages bolt to, you just find a blank cover.

Internals are the same, they just changed the casting on the housing. Halway through '01 and all '02's don't have the provision for the actuating nut to stick up through the top. From what I understand, it's not even a block-off plate. They changed the casting to omit the opening completely.

Frode, I don't know if they changed the designation in 2001 but the D2 1999-2000 uses an LT230SE

They did change the designation, but I can't remeber what it is. Just changed the last two letters.
