Took my Disco II to my local LRNA dealer yesterday for its 15k service. While it was there I had them look at my driver side wiper fluid nozzle since it leaks blue fluid all over my white hood. They replaced the jet, but the technician told me it most likely wouldn't fix the problem. He told me that there was a design problem with the jets. Sure enough, I walk out this morning to go to work and BOTH of my jets are leaking! Arghhhhhhhhh! Anyone else experience this problem? If so, can it be fixed? Dried wiper fluid is tough to get off of white paint. |

Yeah, that happens to me too. Drivers side only. 2001 DSII |

Same here, driver's side only. It is rather frustrating, I don't really understand how the fluid can get out if the pump is not running. Any ideas? Chris |

The tech explained to me that there is some type of valve in the jet assembly that is temperature sensitive. When conditions are just right (temperature wise?) it actually forces wiper fluid out of the jet. Now that I think about it, mine didn't start leaking until the temp warmed up (I bought my Disco early this spring). And now both of them leak! If I can't get it fixed, I will have to explore using some different kind of wiper fluid (or even none at all). It just looks tacky having dried blue fluid all over your hood. |

Don't know what type of fluid you are using or how long you wait to wash it off, but my 2001 DII with 8500 miles has leaked since day one and I've had no problem at all getting the fluid off. In fact, I never even make a point to wash it off, it just comes off in the rain or car wash. |

However, if it bothers you that much, you can always go to the grocery store and buy a bottle of ammonia (clear liquid) and mix it with water in your tank. I worked at a filling station growing up and thats what we always used for window cleaner. You know those depression kids always know how to squeeze a nickle till the buffalo squeals. |

Or you could try that pink washer fluid, just for a change in pace. Haha |

I dont have any problem with my '01 DiscoII.. The only problem I have is the wiper fluid seams through the cabin hits you directly to the nose.. the smell of the fluid is aweful.. there is a vent problem, obviously. |

Hehehe, I don't smell it if my vents are set to recycle. The intakes for the AC system are at the base of the windshield, so whenever you spray your washers and you're vents are open, you're gonna get that scent. |

Steve, that's a common problem. I've got a check valve P/N at home that you can install inline to prevent the leaking. I'll post it tomorrow. |

I would think you may could get one of those $0.99 aquarium check valves that keep the water from draining out of your tank if your airpump dies or the current goes off and install it just below each nozzle. This way the fluid can only go out under pressure, but it may not really work as this is not the intended use. |

Greg D, You are tha man! I will eagerly await the part number. Thanks for the help. I am at a loss as to why Land Rover would keep putting these things on vehicles if they know they leak. It can't be that complicated a part. |

Just to chime in: I have a 2000 D2 with 30K and have never seen this. I am in Utah wich swing temps from 5 to 110. Maybe it is more of a humidity issue. We have none here Curtis |

OK. Here's the skinny. This was originally posted on the Yahoo group when it first started. See, being anal and keeping everything has its pluses. "Not a warranty fix, but any one-way (check) valve will do. There are a couple in place under your hood already, on the same system. Just ask your local parts guy for a washer fluid check valve. The LR P/N for the DSII is AMR6676. It has an arrow on the top to tell you the flow direction. Note that this will reduce your problem 95%, but will not completely solve it. The fluid in the nozzle & the 1" of hose will still leak out." This was originally posted by Justin Dermody back in Nov. of '00. Hope this helps, and no, I've never taken the time to do mine. Since I have the info now, I might just get motivated enough to do this. |

Curtis - I live in Tennessee. Believe me, we've got humidity! Greg D. - Thanks for the info. I'll give it a try. |
