I heard a lot of good reviews about this tire which is not sold in the US. I think I am going to buy them in the UK and tell them to ship it to the US. I need a very good off road tire since most of the time, my Discovery is used off road.

Just keep in mind that it's a bias ply tire and is not DOT approved. I think you could get similar results with a Swamper and save some $$. Swampers over there are as expensive as the Simex is over here. Very costly to import. You would definitely have one over the Swampers in "cool" factor though. I'd like to have a set to swap out for extended runs just for the sake of being different. They are good tires.

George S. has them on his D2. Maybe he will see this thread and post. He's pretty happy with them from what I heard.

Glenn, how long has George had these? Any idea what size he is running? The only shots I've seen of his rig were with what looked like A/T's.

Oh... right... ooopppss... I know they aren't commonly available here, whatever the hell that brand is. If I'm not mistaken they're 12.50" or some crazy-ass width and are 33" tires.. They look good on the D2 though... I know I have a pic of them the John C. had sent me... lemme ceck and I'll post if I find them.

Simex makes the Centipede and the Extreme Trekker. Is that what George is running? If so, I'd be interested in where and how he got them. Just curious, of course.

He had them new at the Wurtsboro trip and that was back in February so I would say about 6 months now. He's got a photogallery here but I don't think he's got pics of the D2 with them. I guess you can get his email through his photo gallery (Not sure if he has the email there). Anyway, I found that pic for you...

If any of you guys want to get a hold of some of the Simex's, I might know a guy who can help you import them from Australia. They aren't that expensive. Nothing like the XZL or whatever the hell they are called.

BTW this friend of mine runs them and they are quite impressive. Beats the hell out of Swampers.

Go to your local Southern States, and get a set of 7.50 x 16 Co-Op Gripspurs. Check my photo gallery for the tread pattern. They are amazing off-road, not so great on. Bias ply, like 10 plies thick. The only problem I've ever had is that a few times they've been so aggressive, they've dug me down into the mud too far.
They just flat kick ass.

I went to two tire shops in Sydney to ask if I can import Extreme Trekkers to America, and they said yes, but if caught I have to assume full responsibility. Plus, shipping would make the tires over $200 a pop. But they did say that Simex Centipede MT tires are DOT approved and should be available in America. I did a search and couldn't find anything on them.

Here's a pic I found in a Aussie 4x4 mag of the Simex Centipede MT tires:

I spoke to the US rep for Simex just a few weeks ago and was told that they are still not DOT approved, and because of demand in other countries, their production wouldn't be enough to import anyway. Importing them into the US is not very high on their priority list at this time.

George, I didn't think that those sidewalls looked like the Simex. How do you like the Xterrains so far? Are they great in mud, or just so-so? How's the noise and driveability on road?
