My sunroof emits a rattle when shutting, sounds like plastic gears slipping. Any advice on how to fix?

Also the cruise doesn't work and I spied a thread about vacum hoses but couldn't find the starting point of that conversation.

I just purchased a 95' Disco so I'm working on a few bugs.

The sunroofs just rattle, thats the way they are. For the cruise there is a master switch on the dash just to the right of the fog light switch (it has a funky picture that looks like absolutly nothing on it) if that isn't turned on the steering wheel controls wont work.

Yes, I understand about the sunroof rattling as I cruise down the road, this is something different. When I close the front roof it grinds like gears slipping, I was wondering how to access the works or where an adjustment could be made if it is off track abit.

I am also aware of the dash switch for the cruise and it's not that. I had read in one of the other tech discussions about vacum hoses effecting the cruise and was looking for some kind of advice on where to begin my search. I'm sure it isn't a fuse, all other gadgets work fine.

I always thought the picture on the cruise control button looked like a picnic table. I pushed it earlier because I was hungry, man was I disappointed.
Anyhow, very well could be a loose vaccuum hose. The pump for the cruise is located behind the driver headlamp, you will see it up there in front of your jack, should be mounted to the front or your rig. Check the hose (only hose coming from that pump) going from there up to your throttle. Mine was loose when I purchased my '96 and the cruise didn't work. Alot of times it may just be rotted around where it is connected and by cutting away the rotted ends then refitting it will magically work again. There is another vaccuum line that runs in and ends up somewhere around up above your brake pedal, but I can't help ya there. Later.. RS

The picture on the cruise control button is the same symbol used on the UK road signs leading onto a highway - supposed to be a bridge over a highway....useless fact of the day #1

Folks, I read some archives about the vacuum hoses and their tendency to make the cruise control crap out. Thank you all very much for all the discussion. A couple hours reading, a new vast understanding of the malady and a whole lot of money saved. All thanks to you out there. SO simple, clip a half inch off the split hose and go.
